Job Summary

The Project Management Department of the Investment Planning & Strategy Division is hiring one professional level role that may be filled as a Project Manager or a Senior Project Manager. The position may be located on Oahu, Maui, or Hawaii Island.

Project Manager – Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and manage scope, schedule, and costs for Energy Delivery projects and programs that require regulatory approvals, land/Right‑of‑Way acquisition, and public relations.
  • Serve as the focal point for all project matters from inception through construction and closing.
  • Coordinate with community groups, government agencies, and other stakeholders to obtain permits, address concerns, and resolve issues.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules; prepare progress and cost reports for internal and external audiences.
  • Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs, Budgets, Management Accounting & Financial Services, and other departments to secure approvals and manage expenditures.
  • Participate in company emergency response activities as assigned.
Senior Project Manager – Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and manage major Energy Delivery capital projects with similar complexity to the role of Project Manager.
  • Mentor Project Managers and provide leadership across multiple levels.
  • Ensure timely resolution of regulatory, community, and operational issues.
  • Prepare and present project and program progress and cost reports to stakeholders.
  • Manage procurement, approvals, and budget administration for large projects.
  • Participate in company emergency response activities as required.
Basic Qualifications – Knowledge
  • Advanced understanding of project management principles and engineering/construction practices in the transmission, distribution, and/or generation fields.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (required for Senior PM; preferred for PM).
  • Experience with LEAN continuous improvement and basic safety practices.
  • Proficiency with project management software (MS Project, UI Planner, Ellipse/DARS, SAP, etc.).
  • State of Hawaii driver’s license and compliance with the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions.
Basic Qualifications – Skills
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues with tact, courtesy, and discretion.
  • Analytical, computational, and organizational abilities for complex projects.
  • Teamwork and leadership skills at all levels.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with community and government leaders.
Basic Qualifications – Experience
  • 3–5 years of project or construction management experience (minimum 3 years can be replaced by a related degree).
  • 1–3 years of project management for large projects, and desired 1–3 years of leadership experience.
  • Experience with regulatory and public affairs processes involving land use and community relations.
