Junior Telescope Operator
K ’s National Security Solutions team provides high‑end engineering and advanced technology solutions to customers in the intelligence and national security communities. In this position, your work protects national security.

Contribute to designing and optimizing defense systems that safeguard the nation and shape space defense.
- Provide 24/7/365 operation and maintenance of mission equipment, including telescopes, sensors, mounts, IT, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Set up mission equipment based on collection/test needs, operate during tests, and ensure safe storage.
- Perform routine calibration and end‑to‑end system testing.
- Operate and monitor all equipment at the AMOS site.
- Use test equipment to isolate faulty components and report findings.
- Monitor quality of data collections, identify issues, and recommend improvements.
- Support engineers in designing, modifying, and improving products and processes.
- Associate degree with at least 2 years of related experience (operating mechanical, optical, or electrical equipment) or equivalent training and experience.
- Basic knowledge of job procedures and tools from work experience; vocational/technical education or on‑the‑job training may be required.
- Flexibility to work required shifts for a 365x24x7 mission and at 10,000‑foot elevation.
- Ability to obtain and maintain government clearance within 2–6 months.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to adapt style to varied audiences and produce clear written materials.
- Active Secret clearance; eligibility for TS/SCI.
- At least one year experience operating telescopes or optical sensors under supervision.
- Full‑time onsite at Haleakala summit (≈10,000 ft) with minimal work in Kihei, HI.
- Physically capable of working under reduced oxygen levels and variable weather; must be aware of high‑altitude conditions.
- Hawaii only:
Non‑exempt, approximate pay $30–$38 per hour, based on candidate’s qualifications and internal parity. - Potential bonuses, commissions, or other compensation per policy.
