The State Recruiting Office will refer all inquiries regarding this exempt position to the Department of Defense, Youth Challenge Academy.
A Youth Challenge Academy Recruiting, Placement, and Mentoring (RPM) Recruiter identifies, screens, and recruits at-promise youth (aged 16 - 18) for a voluntary residential program, while securing mentors and post‑graduation placements. They travel to conduct outreach, interview applicants/parents, and facilitate the transition of cadets into the program and back into society.
The recruiter typically works under an RPM Coordinator and may assist in mentoring, case management, and coordinating the residential staff to support the cadet's post-residential action plan.
A flex work schedule that includes day, evening, weekend, nights, and holiday hours may also be worked.
The Hawaii National Guard Youth CHalleNGe Academy, at any allotted time, without notice, reserves the right to adjust, modify and or make changes to the duties and responsibilities of this position to ensure Mission success.
A. Requires experience working with at-promise youth, counseling, or recruiting.
B. Strong interpersonal communication, crisis management, and the ability to work under high‑stress conditions.
C. Must have experience supervising personnel.
D. Experience safeguarding, person(s), the community and/or businesses.
E. Have worked in a team/collaborative environment.
F. Have demonstrated ability to work in a stressful environment.
G. Graduation from High School or GED equivalent.
H. Bachelor's degree.
I. Must pass National Agency Check and Criminal Background Check
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:A. National Guard, Reserve and Retired Military members.
B. Experience working with at-promise youth, prior military experience (National Guard/Reserve) or recruiting experience is highly valued.
C. Mentors must be supported throughout the 12‑month post‑residential phase.
D. Effective communication with participants, parents, and community partners is vital.
E. Building partnerships with schools, community organizations, and employers is central to the role.
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, ETC.Possess a valid license to drive in the State of Hawaii, and an appropriate military driver’s license, if applicable.
Ability to receive and maintain a current CPR / First Aid certification card.
This position is exempt from the civil service and considered temporary in nature. Therefore, if you are appointed to the position, your employment will be considered to be "at will", which means that you may be discharged from your employment at the prerogative of your department head or designee at any time.
