Southern Transport, LLC was established in 2006 with a one-ton truck and a gooseneck trailer, hauling local hot shot loads. It has now grown into a multi-entity organization that is a very respected, national choice for heavy-haul transport, lifting and freight services.

Due to continued growth, we are adding a new Accounting Manager position in the accounting department supporting both our Southern Transport and Southern Lifting and Hoisting branches. This position will report directly to the Controller. To be successful in this position, the candidate will need at least 5 years of accounting experience and the ability to handle a wide range of duties across multiple companies.

CPA is preferred but not required. This is a hands-on, in-office position requiring strong accounting expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Support all aspects of accounting management, including fixed assets, payroll, and reporting
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings
• Prepare and review journal entries; reconcile general ledger accounts
• Contribute to the preparation of financial statements and management reports
• Assist with the annual audit and ensure compliance with GAAP
• Identify and resolve discrepancies in accounting records
• Maintain accounting systems and documentation across multiple entities

Requirements and Skills

• Proven experience as assistant controller or a similar position
• Strong understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations
• Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting etc.)
• Understanding of data analysis
• Working knowledge of MS Office (especially excel) and accounting software (Quick Books desktop, Quick Base, Paychex)
• Payroll Processing
• Well-organized with ability to prioritize
• Very good communication and interpersonal skills
• Attention to detail and problem-solving ability
• BS/BA in accounting, finance or relevant field is preferred
• CPA certification (preferred)

Education:

• Bachelor's (Preferred)

Experience:

• Accounting: 5 years (Required)
• Assistant Controller: 1 year (Preferred)
• GAAP: 2 years (Required)

License/Certification:

• CPA (Preferred)

Ability to Relocate:

• Kilgore, TX:
  Relocate before starting work (Required)

Pay range is negotiable according to experience. Paid weekly.
