Position Details
The Clerical Assistant for the Writing Studio provides administrative and customer service support to students, tutors, and staff within the Writing Studio at the Kilgore Campus. This position assists with student check‑in and appointment scheduling processes, maintains records and files, answers inquiries, and supports the daily operation of the Writing Studio. The Clerical Assistant helps ensure a welcoming and organized learning environment by coordinating tutoring appointments, assisting students with basic technology access issues, safeguarding confidential student information, and maintaining a clean and professional workspace.
Responsibilities- Assist students in checking in and out of the Writing Studio
- Assist students in scheduling appointments for the Writing Studio
- Answer the phone with courtesy and professionalism
- Handle filing and retrieving files for use by tutors
- Assist students when they encounter issues logging into Wi‑Fi and Blackboard
- Help manage which tutors to assign to students
- Help manage timing of appointments
- Safeguard student and maintain confidentiality
- Sanitize desk areas following tutoring sessions
- High school diploma/GED
- Ability to prioritize tasks and organize work efficiently
- Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with students, faculty, and staff
- Punctual, dedicated, friendly, and willing to practice radical hospitality on a daily basis
- Great attention to detail
- Be able to lift up to 25 lbs., sit for long periods, read and work from computer 85% of the time
- Computer skills to include proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and database applications
- Able to work well with little supervision and relate well to a diverse student and faculty population
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Able to work in a typical office environment
- Able to handle occasional high levels of stress
- Organized, confidentiality‑minded, expedient, tactful, and even‑tempered
- Excellent customer service skills are required

- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

- The rate of pay is up to $10 per hour for up to 19 hours per week.
