Position Overview
The Shop Welder Tech 3 (Line Bore) performs complicated welding repairs, fabrication, and line boring on heavy equipment and components with minimal supervision using Holt, Caterpillar, and AWS Welding Procedures, Standards and Codes. The candidate fabricates solely from blueprints and installs most components on heavy equipment, including undercarriage.

- Models, promotes, and reinforces the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools and processes to ensure alignment with Vision, Values, and Mission.
- Executes complicated repairs, fabrication, and welding on heavy equipment and components in a shop environment.
- Conducts carbon arc gouging, oxy/acetylene torch beveling, and welding with different welding processes.
- Completes most line boring jobs with minimal supervision.
- Accurately orders parts utilizing Holt computer systems, looking up special instructions, specifications, and processes.
- Maintains all company equipment, tools, and work areas in good, clean working order.
- Operates hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and fabrication and welding equipment proficiently.
- Accurately prepares technical inspection and service reports, documents, and other necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
- Works outside of regularly scheduled hours as required by workload.
- Performs removal and installation of components on heavy equipment, including undercarriage.
- Recommends innovative approaches to projects and equipment needs.
- Assists with developing procedures and techniques for complicated fabrications or repairs.
- Consults with supervisor on purchases.
- Builds and sustains relationships with outside organizations, vendors, and internal and external customers.
- Aids in coaching and mentoring less experienced welders.
- Works safely at all times while adhering consistently to company policies and standards.
- Performs other duties assigned.
- Ability to complete most complicated welding repairs on steel and steel alloys using FCAW & SMAW (all positions) and perform advanced torch work, cutting, and gouging.
- Proficient knowledge of equipment and dimensional tools, including designs, uses, maintenance.
- Proficient knowledge of specification and drawing interpretations.
- Proficient knowledge of current computer software, related hardware, and machine interface systems.
- Adequate work habits, accuracy, and exceptional attention to detail and quality.
- Developed technical skills as a qualified welder/fabricator with a demonstrated ability to perform assigned welding tasks.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills.
- Developing influencing and problem‑solving skills with a developing mechanical aptitude.
- Adaptable to changing schedules and exhibits time‑management skills.
- Ability to follow logical troubleshooting and SOPs when performing welding fabrication and repairs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a strong work ethic, being dependable, reliable, and honest with demonstrated integrity.
- Ability to follow manufacturer and company installation and service guidelines to ensure quality work.
- Required to be a self‑starter.
- Ability to read, write, and understand information and follow directions and procedures.
- Able to perform complicated line‑boring jobs.
- Able to cut‑out/weld‑out broken bolts.
- Ability to work with hand grinder/sander, air tools, forklifts, and material handling equipment.
- Welding certifications to complete during this level: SMAW (stick) 1” T-1 material (3G and 4G).
- Failure analysis training.

- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional specialized/technical training or some college courses in Welding Technology preferred.
- Three years’ experience required.

- Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) 3G and 4G
- First Aid/CPR;
