Description/Notes: The Math Campus Instructional Specialist (CIS) supports teachers and improves student math achievement through coaching, professional development, and curriculum development. The role builds teacher capacity, models effective instruction, analyzes student data, plans interventions, aligns instruction with standards, and engages families. As part of the campus leadership team, the CIS collaborates with campus leaders, teachers, and the Learning Services Department to foster strong communication and partnership.

Primary focus is on campus‑based instructional leadership and teacher coaching, with additional district‑level responsibilities such as professional development delivery, curriculum development, and cross‑campus collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Campus‑Based Responsibilities:
    • Lead implementation of district math curriculum and aligned resources for high‑quality Tier 1 instruction in every classroom.
    • Design and deliver campus‑specific math professional development.
    • Mentor, coach, and provide feedback to math teachers; monitor implementation of improvement plans.
    • Lead the campus math PLC to ensure lesson internalization, data analysis, reteaching plans, and student work analysis occur weekly.
    • Coordinate tiered interventions and progress monitoring for at‑risk student populations.
    • Conduct high‑leverage walkthroughs of math classrooms to calibrate instruction quality and provide immediate feedback.
    • Collaborate with the principal, assistant principal, and other instructional leaders to evaluate teacher performance and build teacher leadership capacity.
    • Lead data meetings after every formative assessment, progress check, or benchmark to adjust instruction.
    • Assist with local testing, including scheduling, administration, and analysis of results.
    • Organize and distribute instructional materials for classroom use.
    • Communicate clearly with teachers, administrators, and the community in oral and written forms.
    • Serve as liaison between district curriculum instruction personnel and the campus leadership team.
    • Perform duties assigned by the principal or Executive Director of Schools.
    • Provide functional supervision and leadership to math teachers and PLC leads, collaborating with the campus administrative team.
  • District‑Level Responsibilities:
    • Serve as a campus and/or district trainer in professional development initiatives (New Teacher Induction, mentor training, appraisal system, etc.).
    • Act as project leader on math curriculum projects; assist in writing math curriculum and pacing guides.
    • Participate in cross‑campus leadership meetings and provide expertise in math instruction for other campuses.
    • Contribute to district‑level initiatives in math assessment, instructional planning, and professional learning.
    • Perform duties assigned by the principal or Executive Director of Schools.
Job Requirements

Qualifications: Five years of successful teaching experience in the subject and level of assignment; valid Texas teaching certificate in the subject or equivalent certification. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (Master’s preferred). Preferably a principal certificate or enrollment in a leadership program. Experience coaching teachers in high‑need or turnaround environments and evidence of achieving significant student growth in mathematics. Ability to lead courageous conversations, manage adult learning, and utilize computer software to interpret testing data.
