St. Joseph Catholic Academy is a faith-filled community dedicated to forming students in academic excellence, strong character, and a deep commitment to serving others; we are seeking a Music teacher (PK-5) who will also be our Band and Choir teacher (6-8) who plans, guides, and evaluates student learning, reporting to the principal and exercising decision-making within the framework of the school's policies, philosophy, organization, and curriculum.
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Music Teacher who will also teach Band, Choir/Catechetical Choir electives. This educator will inspire a love of Music, and a passion to grow within the Arts. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about teaching Music, building the Band, developing ensembles, works with colleagues and Musical Liturgy within the Mass, and is committed to fostering a dynamic classroom environment which encourages participation, builds a sense of belonging, and holds high expectations for the success and growth of each student.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach Music classes to students in grades PK–5, Band Elective 6-8, Choir Elective 6-8 and Choir club after school. The teacher will design engaging, standards-based lessons that meet the needs of a variety of learners.
- During Music class the teacher will introduce students to basic music concepts, rhythm, singing, instruments, and appreciation of music through engaging, age-appropriate instruction and activities.
- Be the lead Music teacher for the Catechetical Choir grant program, which supports schools and parishes in developing and sustaining choir programs that integrate sacred music with catechesis, helping students grow in both musical skill and understanding of the faith.
- Develop students' musical skills through instruction in tone production, technique, ensemble playing, and music literacy.
- Teach students to read, interpret, and analyze musical notation, rhythms, dynamics, articulation, and terminology.
- Foster a solid foundation in music theory, including key signatures, scales, intervals, time signatures, and chord structure.
- Support the development of aural skills and music appreciation through listening exercises and performance critique.
- Teaches students vocal technique, music literacy, and ensemble performance skills while preparing them for rehearsals, performances, and overall musical growth.
- Plan and lead regular rehearsals for various small groups in Music, Band and Choir.
- Direct and organize school performances, including seasonal concerts, ceremonies, and church and community events.
- Encourage and prepare students for participation in local, regional, and state-level festivals, honor bands, and competitions.
- Manage and maintain an organized inventory of instruments, sheet music, and equipment.
- Oversee the needs in Music (Band and Choir) and coordinate purchases of instruments, music, and supplies.
- Promote and grow the Music program (Band and Choir) through student recruitment and outreach to younger grade levels.
- Provide individualized feedback and instruction to support student growth and musical excellence.
- Collaborate with other fine arts staff and general faculty on interdisciplinary projects and joint performances.
- Organize and supervise student participation in off-campus performances, ensuring safety and logistical planning.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress in alignment with school policies.
- Communicate regularly with students, families, and staff regarding student progress, events, and expectations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field.
- Valid teaching certification (or ability to obtain one).
- Proficiency in a variety of band instruments and ensemble conducting.
- Prior experience teaching music or working with school-age students.
- Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Music programs.
- Familiarity with music theory, composition, and digital music tools.
Requirements:
- Ability to communicate effectively with families and colleagues.

- Ability to manage time well and keep records and gradebook up to date.
