Responsible for instructing students in core skills related to residential and light industrial construction, including blueprint reading, material usage, site preparation, structural framing, finish work, cabinet and trim installation, basic plumbing and electrical systems, and cost estimating, with an emphasis on safety, code compliance, and hands-on application. The position involves developing and delivering curriculum, providing hands-on instruction, assessing student progress, maintaining tools, equipment, and facilities, and fostering strong industry connections to prepare students for successful careers in the Building Trades industry.

  • Associate degree from a nationally, regionally or identified at the state level accredited institution of higher education required.
  • Directly related work experience, professional licensure, and/or industry certifications.
Knowledge of
  • 1. building trades and construction technology theory, practice, materials, tools, codes, and safety standards relevant to residential and light industrial applications.
  • 2. OSHA regulations and workplace safety practices.
  • 3. hazardous materials handling, storage, disposal, and required recordkeeping.
  • 4. proper use and maintenance of industry tools, equipment, and service publications.
  • 5. equipment maintenance and repair procedures used in instructional lab setting.
  • 6. instructional delivery techniques and learning assessments.
Skills to
  • 1. apply construction techniques across residential and light industrial projects, including framing, masonry, plumbing, electrical, finish work, and installation of structural components.
  • 2. interpret technical documents such as blueprints, codes, and specifications to guide construction planning, material use, and code-compliant execution.
  • 3. operate tools and perform trade-specific calculations using hand and power tools, precision instruments, and accurate measurement and estimating methods.
  • 4. communicate effectively and present/convey complex technical concepts.
  • 5. solve problems and think critically.
  • 6. organize and manage time and tasks.
  • 7. use anLMS (e.g., Blackboard) to deliver curriculum and track student progress.
  • 8. work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
Ability to
  • 1. engage and motivate students with various learning styles and backgrounds.
  • 2. design and deliver hands-on training activities and assessments.
  • 3. maintain industry partnerships and collaborate with local businesses.
  • 4. stay current with advancements in building trades and construction technology.
  • 5. update curriculum accordingly.
  • 6. maintain a professional and pleasant demeanor when interacting with students, colleagues, and the public.
  • 7. maintain accurate and complete records in compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • 8. be fair, impartial, and objective in assessing student performance and handling classroom/lab situations.
  • 9. work independently and manage time effectively with limited supervision.
Instructional Duties
  • Provide instruction and facilitate student learning.
  • Provide meaningful feedback on student progress.
  • Track student progress through Blackboard.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum.
  • Begin all lecture and lab sessions on time.
Student Support
  • Advise students on program and career matters.
Administrative Duties
  • Complete and submit all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Attend required faculty meetings.
  • Understanding and adhere to all college and department policies and procedures.
  • Complete professional development requirements as required by the college and department.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and exercise discretion in all interactions and responsibilities.
Safety and Maintenance
  • Monitor laboratory activities for safety violations and immediately address all infractions.
  • Supervise the issuing, return, and proper storage of supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain and perform repairs on training equipment.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of laboratory, classroom, and tool room facilities.
  • Report broken or unserviceable equipment, tools, or instruments.
