Career Navigator-Adult Education

The Career Navigator provides comprehensive transition advising and instructional support to adult learners in the AEL program as they prepare to enter post secondary education, workforce training, or employment. This role is essential to student success through individualized career and education planning, delivery of transition-focused workshops, and coordination of Integrated Education and Training (IET) services. The Career Navigator is also responsible for student recruitment, retention, compliance, and reporting as required under the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) AEL grant.

This is a full-time, grant-funded position.

Associates Degree and four years of full-time work experience in workforce education, academic outreach, community engagement, and/or program development OR Bachelor’s degree in from a nationally or regionally accredited university and two years’ full time work experience in workforce education, academic outreach, community engagement, and/or program development required.

Master’s degree preferred.

• One (1) year of teaching experience or teacher certification.
• Experience working with adult learners and supporting transitions to college or workforce pathways.
• Certification in career coaching or workforce development (e.g., GCDF or CWDP).
• Familiarity with Workforce Solutions, Career Pathways models, or Vocational Rehabilitation Services.
• Bilingual proficiency, depending on service area needs.
• Experience with case management systems and data reporting tools.

• Knowledge of local college and workforce program offerings, entry requirements, and financial aid options.
• Understanding of student visa processes, accreditation types, and educational institution classifications.
• Ability to provide academic and career advising, including resume development, job search techniques, interview preparation, and career exploration.
• Experience in student recruitment, mentoring, and support services for diverse adult learners.
• Effective teaching, public speaking, and facilitation skills using various instructional platforms.
• Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate workforce or educational programs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based tools (e.g., Linked In); ability to maintain accurate records and generate reports.
• Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to interact professionally with students, staff, employers, and the public.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently or collaboratively in a team environment.
• Commitment to equity, access, and supporting under served populations.

• Advise AEL students on transitions to post secondary education and the workforce through individual and group sessions.
• Develop and revise Individual Training, Education, and Career (ITEC) plans; maintain accurate documentation.
• Provide instruction and facilitate workshops in College Readiness, Financial Literacy, and Career Preparation.
• Lead Success Academy orientation for new AEL participants.
• Recruit and support Integrated Education and Training (IET) participants; maintain transition case files.
• Provide job readiness services, including resume writing, application support, and interview coaching.
• Stay informed on labor market trends, in-demand occupations, and relevant training programs.
• Build partnerships with local employers, training providers, and community agencies to expand student opportunities.
• Collaborate with college departments (Admissions, Financial Aid, Counseling, Career Services, Testing, ESOL, etc.) to support student success.
• Support students with navigating Ability to Benefit (ATB) eligibility and documentation requirements.
• Maintain a digital resource library of career and college pathway materials.
• Attend required professional development (minimum of 15 hours annually) and staff meetings; provide internal training on Career Pathways.
• Administer and track NRS-approved assessments in accordance with AEL guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with the Texas AEL Guide, Testing Guide, and Performance Guide.
• Submit all required reports to TWC related to IET, Intensive Services, and Integrated Career Awareness.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
