The Division of Medical Physics at Baylor Scott and White Health, Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking a full time either MS, DMP or PhD (all three will be considered for one position) therapeutic medical physicist in Radiation Therapy to join our team and to support clinical operations in the Baylor Scott and White Medical Center - Temple, Texas. This position will be joining 3 PhD-level physicists and 5 MS-level physicists covering 4 clinics in Central Texas:
Temple, Killeen, Waco, and College Station. This position will be a clinical position working full time hybrid remote/on-site at the Temple and Killeen clinics but will be expected to cover other clinics in central Texas if needed. Among the four clinics, there is 5 Varian True Beam linear accelerators, 2 Varian Varisource, 1 Elekta Flexitron and 5 CT simulators.

Job Summary

The Therapeutic Med Physicist 1, under the direction of the Director of Medical Physics from the Department of Radiation Oncology, performs the technical aspect of safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy to achieve the therapeutic treatment outcome of a patient.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform, evaluate, and manage regularly scheduled quality assurance testing of treatment related machines and/or systems (linear accelerator, brachytherapy, computed tomography, and radiation treatment planning system).
  • Perform and supervise any radiation treatment that requires a therapeutic medical physicist to be present.
  • Perform, supervise, and evaluate any computer aided planning and/or calculation for radiation treatment (external beam and brachytherapy).
  • Perform and evaluate patient related dosimetric measurements to evaluate treatment quality.
  • Provide consultation to radiation oncologists, clinical staff and patients if requested.
  • Participate in acceptance and commissioning of new treatment modality.
  • Participate in state and federal compliance of the department.
  • Fulfills, and provides proof of, continuing education, licensure, and/or certifications required to remain qualified for this role.

  • Good understanding and clinical judgement of radiation oncology clinical workflow. Able to perform tasks independently without routine supervision.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate and maintain radiation treatment machines/equipment/detectors/software.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform and manage regularly scheduled quality assurance testing of treatment related machines and/or systems including patient related dosimetric measurements.

Qualifications
  • Master, DMP or PhD (both will be considered for one position) in Medical Physics or related field required.
  • Licensed by the State of Texas as a Medical Physicist required.
  • Eligible for Therapeutic Medical Physics board certification by the American Board of Radiology required. Must have passed Part I of A  therapeutic medical physics certificate.
  • Master of Science.
  • Physics or Related Field major.
  • Less than 1 Year of Experience.
  • Medical Physicist (LMP):
    Licensed or temporarily licensed by the State of Texas as a Medical Physicist.
