Military & Health Research Foundation (MHRF) is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) with a specialty in Pediatrics for a position at Ft Hood Medical Center. The role will support high‑quality patient care across multispecialty clinical settings by assessing patients, administering medications and treatments, coordinating referrals, assisting with procedures, and documenting care accurately in the electronic health record.
The ideal candidate will bring recent hands‑on nursing experience, sound clinical judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, providers, and multidisciplinary teams. Candidates should be comfortable working flexible shifts based on mission needs, including possible days, evenings, nights, weekends, training holidays, and federal holidays. Job Responsibilities
- Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals to achieve optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF.
- Perform physical exam and health histories.
- Provide health promotions, counseling, and education.
- Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions.
- Direct and supervise care provided by other healthcare professionals.
- Accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel.
- Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react to emergency situations.
- Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people to inform the healthcare team of plans/actions and to provide teaching/education for the benefit of the patient/family and organization.
- Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate.
- Perform nursing services identified in the TO.
- Conduct research in support of improved practice and patient outcomes.
- Perform independent, comprehensive telephone clinical triaging and facilitate care throughout multidisciplinary locations.
- Act as relief nurse, triage, and screen walk‑in patients to assess the severity of the patient’s condition and the need for provider intervention.
- Communicate with other providers regarding determinations and situations relating to direct patient care.
- Screen patient charts to assess medical history and determine health care needs.
- Make psychosocial assessments of patients to identify significant cultural practices, understanding, cooperation, and expectations of care and coping mechanisms.
- Execute and/or ensure the completion of orders from healthcare providers.
- Recognize and report abnormal test results, changes in symptoms, and the need for follow‑up.
- Record required data in patient charts.
- Assist healthcare providers with examinations and procedures.
- Responsible for educating patients on high‑risk, painful, or stressful procedures with education and support.
- Monitor or ensure the monitoring of patients pre, during, and post‑procedures per CRDAMC MTF guidelines.
- Assess post‑procedure patients prior to their release from the clinic.
- Prepare and administer oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous medications.
- Complete thorough and accurate documentation within established guidelines for all patient care and procedures.
