Performs semi-skilled, skilled, technical, and administrative work in maintaining the vehicles and mechanical equipment of the City of Killeen.
SUPERVISION EXERCISEDEmployee has no supervisory responsibilities.
CORE COMPETENCIES- Operates a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, and air‑driven tools.
- Ability to safely operate a forklift and/or other lifting devices.
Performs diagnostic, preventive maintenance and repair on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment, including tune‑ups, overhauling engines, transmissions, differentials, clutches, brakes, drive trains, generators, computer‑controlled fuel injection and emission‑related equipment, carburetors, air conditioning, electrical, cooling, suspension, pumps, hydraulic systems, and steering.
Responsible for scheduled and unscheduled repairs and ensuring compliance with all industry standards.
Handles new vehicle check‑ins, maintains shop equipment, and ensures a safe and clean work environment.
Proficient in metal fabrication and related work.
Operates automotive and general shop equipment, including brake lathes, gas and arc welding equipment, engine analyzers, tire equipment, scanners, and computers; complies with and helps enforce shop safety rules.
Provides road‑call assistance to disabled equipment as needed and appropriate. Enters work order updates and progress in a computer‑based maintenance program; records of maintenance and repair work, including parts used and hours worked.
Maintains the security of issued city‑owned equipment (e.g., tools, toolbox, safety equipment).
Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.
Participates in an on‑call program for emergency callbacks, evenings, and weekends.
Performs installation and removal of auxiliary equipment.
Transports fleet vehicles safely to designated sites for repairs, warranty, and recalls.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCESKILLS AND ABILITIES
