Police Officer

Appointed by the Town Manager and under operational control of a Resident State Trooper, protects lives and property of citizens, with a strong emphasis on community policing.

Provides services to and establishes relationships with the public, maintains the peace, protects the rights of persons and property, and enforces all laws and ordinances within the appropriate jurisdiction.

Under normal conditions, interacts with the public in a congenial and positive manner.

• The Killingly Police Department announces a competitive selection process for the position of police officer.

• A minimum of 21 years of age.
• You must be a Citizen of the United States.
• You must be a high school graduate or possess a GED
• You must possess a valid driver’s license.
• You must pass a physical agility test.
• You must have a written examination score of 70% or higher to be considered.
• You must be of good character and high moral standards.
• You must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions, to read and write proficiently in the English language. Candidates must be able to write clear and concise reports and have good people skills.

• You have a criminal record.
• You have been dishonorably discharged from any military service.
• You have committed any act which would constitute perjury or a false statement.

Candidates may be subjected to a thorough background investigation, drug screening, medical examination, oral testing and interviews, psychological and polygraph testing as well as scrutiny of all application information.
