Job Summary
The Medical Assistant will assist in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider. Responsibilities include managing the check‑in and registration process, conducting patient interviews, measuring vital signs, drawing and collecting blood samples, preparing treatment rooms, and maintaining patient records.

- High School Diploma required; graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred.
- Medical Assistant experience preferred; front desk experience preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire via ARC or AHA.
- Certification: if less than one year of experience, one of CCMA, CMA, RMA, NCMA, NRCMA required. If no certification, 1+ year experience as a Medical Assistant or phlebotomist acceptable.
- Candidate must obtain an approved Medical Assistant certification within 15 months if not already certified.
- Alternative certifications accepted: LPN/RN/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
- Computer proficiency:
Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Conduct patient registration, secure paperwork and insurance documentation, verify eligibility.
- Process co‑pays and schedule patient appointments.
- Coordinate provider referrals to specialists.
- Answer patient queries and keep them informed of status.
- Inform technical staff of patient flow.
- Prepare patients for examination: interview, verify information, record medical history, confirm purpose of visit.
- Perform preliminary physical tests (vital signs) and escalate critical cases to provider.
- Conduct point‑of‑care testing as needed (flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG).
- Stock supplies and maintain exam rooms, front desk, and reception area; ensure providers have necessary supplies.
- Maintain supply inventory levels, check expiration dates, and complete order sheets.
- Maintain medical records, scan charts to patient files.
- Answer phone calls, collect and sort daily incoming/outgoing postal correspondence.
- Ensure reception area is well maintained.
- Conduct courtesy call‑backs for patient follow‑up.
- Perform opening and closing duties: cash out, end‑of‑day communication, secure building.
- Follow instructions for daily equipment controls and calibrations; maintain QA/QC logs; troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, submit repair tickets.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Basic Medical Assistant duties; ability to type quickly.
- Detail oriented, reliable judgment, teamwork, and goal achievement.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact with and treat all persons with fairness, respect, and sensitivity to cultural/social differences.
- Required to complete CPOE certification for order entry within two weeks of start date.
