Introduction
Licensed Practical Nurse position – seasonal, full‑time – at Camp Quinebaug near Killingly, CT. This Camp is operated by the State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS) and offers a 6‑week program for youth with developmental disabilities.

Monday – Friday, 7:45 am – 2:45 pm (first shift, 35 hours/week) - First two weeks may be part‑time with extended availability up to 8:30 pm; last day of work includes Saturday to close camp
Camp Quinebaug, affectionately called “Camp Q,” is a 6‑week, fully accessible day camp that hosts approximately 90–120 campers each season. Located on Wauregan Reservoir, the camp offers swimming, boating, fishing, arts and crafts, sports, and nature‑enrichment activities. The program is tailored to children with developmental disabilities and is administered by the State of Connecticut in partnership with local schools and community organizations.
Job SummaryThe designated LPN will serve as the camp nurse, providing bedside care and support to campers and staff under the direction of the registered nurse, camp administrator, or camp manager.
Responsibilities- Assist doctors and nurses in general care and treatment of individuals
- Measure, administer, and document medications—including insulin injections, IV medications, and oral medications—using appropriate forms
- Perform narcotic counts, perform simple nursing treatments, and administer enemas or suppositories as needed
- Monitor patients’ vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration) and record observations
- Check and apply restraints correctly, and transcribe medication orders
- Dispense medications in a doctor’s absence and maintain accurate inventories
- Provide basic nursing care such as Foley catheterization, topical medication application, and emergency first aid
- Drive patients to necessary appointments or outings, when required
- Communicate changes in patient condition to doctors, report behavior, and keep the unit safe and healthy
- Perform related duties as requested by management
- License or temporary permit to practice nursing in Connecticut by the State Board of Examiners for Nursing, or a Multistate or Compact Licensed Practical Nurse license
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders
- Experience in a camp setting
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in interacting with a diverse population
- Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word)
May be required to possess and retain a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s license, Public Passenger Endorsement, or Commercial Driver’s license for designated positions.
Working ConditionsIncumbents may be required to lift/restrain individuals, and may encounter exposure to communicable diseases, injuries from assaultive or abusive individuals, and disagreeable conditions.
