The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS), is recruiting for anticipated Lifeguard positions across Connecticut for our summer programs. As a Lifeguard you will oversee outdoor swimming and recreational water activities which allows individuals the opportunity to participate in therapeutic and recreational swimming. The mission of DDS is to partner with the individuals we support and their families, to support lifelong planning and to join with others to create and promote meaningful opportunities for individuals to fully participate as valued members of their communities.

Highlights
  • Pay: $21.00/hour. No benefits.
  • First shift, full and part time positions anticipated. The work assignments will vary.
  • Flexible to meet the needs of the agency.

  • Camp Quinebaug, Killingly, CT (5/29/26 – 8/06/26)
  • Lower Fairfield County Regional Center, Norwalk, CT (5/15/26 – 9/3/26)
  • Southbury Training School, Southbury, CT (5/15/26 – 9/3/26)
What The Average Day Looks Like
  • Signing in at office
  • Setting up the swim area
  • Scanning the swim area
  • Helping patrons
  • Closing the swim area
  • Signing out at the office
Apply Today If You
  • Will be at least 18 years old by the start of the season
  • Are or will be certified in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid by the position start date; must be able to perform emergency first aid as needed
  • Possess Lifesaving certification from a national accredited organization (e.g., American Red Cross, YMCA, Ellis & Associates); all certifications must be valid for the duration of the working period
  • Are able to work for the full season including completion of all required DDS training
  • Possess and maintain adequate physical fitness to perform duties (outdoor work in varied weather, extended periods) and work well with staff and campers
  • Must be able to lift and transfer equipment, boats and individuals
  • Incumbents must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam
