Hands-on accounting lead responsible for the general ledger, monthly close, fund accounting, payroll, audit prep, and financial reporting. Director-level role under the CFO.

The Comptroller is the senior accounting and financial‑compliance leader at The Youth Project, working directly under the Chief Financial Officer. The position owns the day-to-day general ledger, financial close, accounts payable and receivable, payroll reconciliation, grants compliance accounting, audit preparation, and internal controls. This is a hands‑on director‑level role responsible for ensuring TYP’s financial records, reports, and filings are accurate, timely, and audit‑ready at all times.

The Comptroller is the second financial signatory in the organization after the CFO.

What we’re looking for
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including 2+ years in nonprofit or fund accounting
  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (FASB ASU 2016-14, ASC 958)
  • Proficiency with Quick Books, Sage Intacct, or equivalent; advanced Excel/Google Sheets; payroll platforms
  • Experience preparing or supporting external financial audits
  • CPA license active or in progress preferred
  • Experience with California school district contracts, ELO‑P funding, or government grant accounting preferred
Required before start
  • DOJ and FBI Live Scan clearance
  • TB clearance
  • Form I-9 verification
  • Mandated reporter (CANRA) training within 30 days of hire
