Summary
We are representing a well-established structural steel organization seeking an experienced Structural Steel Detailer and/or Checker to join their growing team in King of Prussia, PA. This is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented steel professional who takes pride in producing accurate, complete, and fabrication-ready structural steel drawings in a collaborative and technically strong environment.
This role is ideal for a Detailer or Checker who has a solid foundation in structural steel connections, member detailing, and erection drawings — and is ready to contribute to a team that values precision, quality, and craftsmanship in everything they produce.
The ideal candidate is technically sharp, organized, and comfortable working through complex structural steel scopes with minimal supervision. Familiarity with SDS2 is a strong plus but not a requirement — the right candidate with strong detailing fundamentals and a willingness to learn will be considered.
Projects typically include commercial, industrial, and institutional structural steel scopes across a range of building types and sizes.
Key Responsibilities Detailing & Drawing Production- Produce detailed structural steel shop drawings including member details, connection details, and erection drawings
- Detail all structural steel members including beams, columns, braces, connections, base plates, and miscellaneous steel
- Develop anchor bolt plans, erection plans, and sequences in coordination with the engineering and fabrication teams
- Ensure all drawings are complete, accurate, and meet fabrication and erection requirements prior to submission
- Incorporate engineer of record markups, revisions, and RFI resolutions into updated drawing sets in a timely manner
- Review and check shop drawings produced by other detailers for accuracy, completeness, and conformance with contract documents
- Verify connection designs, member sizes, and geometry against structural engineer of record drawings and specifications
- Identify discrepancies, coordination issues, and errors prior to fabrication release and communicate corrections clearly
- Ensure all drawings comply with AISC standards, applicable codes, and project-specific requirements
- Maintain organized and up-to-date drawing logs, revision tracking, and submittal records
- Coordinate with project engineers, the fabrication team, and erectors to resolve field and shop questions
- Communicate with the engineer of record and general contractor on RFIs, submittal reviews, and drawing revisions
- Participate in internal drawing reviews and coordination meetings as needed
- Support the detailing team on active projects to maintain schedule and production targets

- 3–10+ years of structural steel detailing experience
- Strong working knowledge of structural steel connections, member types, and fabrication requirements
- Proficiency in SDS2 preferred — candidates with strong detailing fundamentals and experience in other platforms (Tekla, AutoCAD, Stru Cad) will also be considered
- Solid understanding of AISC standards, structural drawings, and steel construction specifications
- Ability to read and interpret structural engineer of record drawings, specifications, and connection design documents
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing accurate, fabrication-ready work
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with engineering, fabrication, and erection teams
- Experience in a checker role reviewing and approving shop drawings for fabrication a strong plus
