The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King (WVHK) is recruiting multiple Nurse Clinician 2 (Registered Nurse) limited-term employment (LTE) positions to join our dedicated Nursing team. The Home is a 24/7/365 long-term care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional healthcare services to elderly or disabled veterans and spouses of veterans. Our facility is located along the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O'Lakes, off Highway 10, between Stevens Point and Appleton, Wisconsin.

Position Summary

Under the limited supervision of a Nursing Supervisor and the direction of the Nurse Clinician 2 (RN), this role is objective-level licensed practical nursing work. The position is responsible for providing routine direct and indirect patient care for geriatric and/or disabled members at WVHK, working directly with members and families. The incumbent receives specific direction and assists professional-level healthcare providers in complex situations.

Nursing services are provided in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act;
American Nurses Association and Gerontological Nursing Standards; federal and state statutes and administrative rules; U.S. Veterans Affairs (VA) regulations; and the mission, philosophy, policies and procedures of the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) and WVHK. The work is characterized by the technical knowledge of patient care, observation, treatments and medications. The incumbent is expected to meet specific technical nursing requirements and to make critical observations of members.

Salary

Information

Starting wage is $42.86 – $49.61 per hour, plus additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.
Nurse Clinician 2 is in pay schedule-pay range 11‑02. For current or eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan effective at the time of hire.
This job does not offer employee benefits.
This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.

Job Details

These are flexible part‑time positions with the option to pick up additional hours as desired with no required overtime. Shifts are available AM, PM, NOC, holidays and weekends. Candidate preferences gathered at time of interview.
LTE jobs are limited to 1039 hours in a 12‑month period and do not include employee benefits.
Job duties require the ability to assist in patient mobility efforts, stand and/or walk up to 75% of an eight‑hour day to provide assessments, kneel, stoop, make visual observations, lift, push, pull, carry, reach, maintain hygiene, use special safety equipment, and wear protective clothing.
These requirements cover the major and essential functions of the position but are not necessarily representative of all duties which this position may be assigned to perform.
Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.
Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre‑employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will

  • have a current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Wisconsin or a Nurse Licensure Compact state, or
  • be eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse in Wisconsin or Nurse Licensure Compact prior to hire.

Additional required and preferred training and/or experience that will be assessed later in the selection process are:

  • Providing nursing care (e.g., assessing, documenting patient status, clinical experience, providing direct and indirect patient care, administering medication and treatments, investigating, and solving problems, directing activities based on patient needs, etc.)
