Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs – “Join our team and honor Wisconsin's veterans.”

The Wisconsin Veterans Home in King (WVHK) seeks full‑time Security Officers to provide safety, security, fire and alarm monitoring, and response around the campus. The Home is a 24/7/365 skilled nursing, long‑term care facility on the Chain O’Lakes shoreline.

Position Summary
  • Provide safety, security, fire and alarm monitoring and response for members, staff, guests and property of WVHK.
  • Support one of the following areas of emphasis: staff training, dispatch, member records, and special equipment/wandering member information.
Work Details
  • Full‑time positions with rotating weekend and holiday work and potential overtime.
  • Shift options:
    • 1400–2200 (8‑hour) and 1800–0600 (12‑hour)
    • 1400–2200 (8‑hour) with additional 8‑ and 12‑hour shifts as scheduled
    • Any of the shifts 0600–1400, 1400–2200, 2200–0600 (8‑hour) and 0600–1800, 1800–0600, 1000–2200, 2200–1000 (12‑hour)
  • Work conducted on‑site in all weather conditions; requires physical capability for moving traffic barricades (up to 35 lb, 12 ft), lifting stretchers, and various body movements.
Salary and Benefits
  • Starting wage: $21.42 per hour.
  • Pay schedule‑pay range 05‑11.

Qualifications
  • Experience in dispatch functions: operating switchboard, receiving calls, determining priority, routing, documenting, and summoning assistance.
  • Valid driver’s license with at least two years of licensed driving experience and age 18 or older.
  • Driver’s record must not show:
    • Three or more moving violations or at‑fault accidents in the past two years
    • An OWI or DUI citation within the past 12 months
    • A suspension or revocation of a driver’s license
  • Experience with professional customer service, Microsoft Office, visitor/staff screening, facility patrol, and alarm monitoring (required skills marked with an asterisk).

Required background check and pre‑employment tuberculosis skin test.

Probationary period of up to 12 months.
