Java Backend Engineer; PK Security Clearance

Position: Java Backend Engineer (PK) with Security Clearance
Piper Companies is seeking a Java Backend Developer (PKI) for a leading technology organization focused on secure, large-scale backend service development. The Java Backend Developer will support the design, enhancement, and maintenance of core backend PKI and cryptographic services. This engineer will build secure backend features, collaborate across engineering and SRE teams, and ensure high-volume cryptographic operations run reliably s opportunity is a long-term contract position, sitting hybrid 2 days a week in RTP, NC , and requires a public trust clearance.

Responsibilities for the Java Backend Developer (PKI) include:
· Develop new backend features for the Licensing Crypto Service using Java and Spring Boot.
· Collaborate closely with technical leads, SREs, architects, and cross-functional engineering teams across multiple time zones.
· Participate in detailed code reviews and feature refinement sessions with client and platform teams.
· Support Tomcat-based application deployments running on Linux environments.
· Assist with integrating and troubleshooting PKCS
11 modules and applied cryptographic components.
· Maintain high-quality operational documentation for services, deployments, and configurations.
· Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation as part of service reliability responsibilities. Qualifications for the Java Backend Developer (PKI) include :
· 5-8 years of backend development experience.
· Strong hands-on expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful services.
· Solid understanding of Linux environments; experience with Tomcat services.
· Experience with PKCS
11, cryptography, or PKI concepts, or demonstrated ability to learn cryptography quickly.
· Experience with Dev Ops tooling:
Git, Git Lab CI/CD, Ansible;
ArgoCD and Helm are strong pluses.
· Experience supporting containerized deployments on platforms such as Open Shift.
· Familiarity with Oracle databases and ORM-based integrations.
· Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and mentor junior developers. Compensation for the Java Backend Developer (PKI) includes:
· Salary range: $120,000 - $140,000
