KeyQualifications
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Experience working with children or youth with visual impairments, particularly in educational settings
- Knowledge of assessment tools and mobility equipment used with visually impaired students
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, families, and support staff
- Current licensure or eligibility to work as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in Arizona
- Provide expert orientation and mobility training for students in accordance with individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Conduct assessments to determine students' needs and develop personalized instruction plans
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to share progress and advise on accessibility improvements
- Train teachers, family members, and support staff on safe mobility strategies to reinforce student learning
- Maintain accurate documentation of services provided and student progress
