Mohave County Public Works Engineering Technician Specialist

Rate of Pay - Range 16/Steps 1-12 $ 24.42 - $33.79

About the position

Perform advanced-level technical civil engineering work in both field and office settings. Incumbents are responsible for performing the most complex and sensitive tasks within the series, including supervisory responsibilities. The role requires full proficiency in all related procedures and the ability to work independently in planning, maintaining, and improving the operation of County infrastructure assets within assigned functional areas. It is a combination of field and office work, including travel throughout Mohave County using a county-issued vehicle.

Core Responsibilities
  • May lead special projects or programs including development of policy and procedures, training and/or supervision for assigned staff.
  • Guide, train, review the work of, and oversee less experienced Engineering Technicians or others as assigned in learning, performing and completing job tasks which include, but are not limited to, roadway design, inspection, testing, traffic analysis, surveying calculations, research, etc. Review work for accuracy and compliance to established requirements.
  • Prepare drawings, designs, plans and plats of civil engineering and surveying projects.
  • Draft plans for roads, rights-of-way, structures, and related construction projects.
  • Prepare and draft as-built plans for completed projects.
  • Calculate dimensions, grades, areas, and quantities of materials.
  • Review and check information from survey notes to include checking land boundary survey calculations.
  • Utilize standard specifications to determine loading, clearance, safe speed limits, safe passing distances, sight distances, and other highway engineering data.
  • Review subdivision improvement plans, minor land divisions, plats, and drainage reports as to their compliance with regulations.
  • Provide technical assistance to less experienced personnel as required.
  • Prepare reports and estimates for quantities of material needed for civil engineering projects.
  • Perform traffic studies and traffic counts.
  • Inspect construction sites.
  • Maintain road inventory and road inspection database. Communicate and act in a professional manner with the public, co-workers, and work contacts.
Engineering / Survey Duties
  • Obtain accurate survey information in the field using traditional and contemporary survey instruments and equipment including establishing survey control, construction layout, and GIS data collection. Perform survey calculations in the field.
  • Edit and plot survey information in the office using computer hardware and software to produce, analyze, and adjust field survey results, producing CADD drawings and maps depicting the results of the field surveys.
