Zoning Inspector

Mohave County Development Services department is looking to fill the position of Zoning Inspector.

The Planning and Zoning Division facilitates land development which is beneficial to Mohave County and its residents. Title 11 Chapter 6 of the Arizona Revised Statutes provides the legal requirements and responsibilities for planning and zoning activities in the County. The division develops and maintains a General Plan, a Zoning Ordinance, and Subdivision Regulations to comply with the statutes. The division seeks to provide excellent customer services by assisting developers and the general public in navigating the requirements while furthering public health and safety.

This is a field position, however, there is office work involved as well. The primary functions of this position are to conduct and verify public complaints dealing with household trash, junk, debris and zoning violations.

• Work schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.
  
  - 5:00 p.m. or four-day schedule of 10 hour days.
• No weekends or holidays; overtime is possible.
• There is daily interaction with the public in the field, at the counter, and on the phone.
• The role is based out of Kingman but requires travel throughout Mohave County to locations such as Bullhead City, Lake Havasu City, and Colorado City. Travel to attend training is also possible.

Must pass pre-employment background check.

• Supervises, coordinates and performs a variety of administrative staff work such as: scheduling; maintaining records; responding to requests for information or services; performing related administrative, planning and research activities; and preparing correspondence, reports, statistical information and may prepare budget materials.
• Completes performance evaluations; may make hiring recommendations; recommends disciplinary actions; approves vacations and time off; prepares work schedules and assignments; supervises the activities of assigned personnel; monitors reports and record keeping activities filed by assigned personnel for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to policy and procedure guidelines; instructs personnel in departmental policies, procedures and techniques; and provides training.
• Investigates, responds, counsels and resolves complaints involving issuances of violations, zoning inspections and procedures, or other related zoning issues.
• Prepares appropriate documentation for violation and files court action including citing the corresponding Arizona Revised Statutes and Zoning Ordinance appropriate to the action being taken as a result of a violation.
• Appears in court and presents case.
• Based upon court's decision, takes appropriate follow up action to ensure compliance to court's decision by violator. If violator does not comply with court decision, files appropriate court documents and takes further action as required.
• Inspects, evaluates and renders decisions of compliance or violation of housing, code, and Hazard Abatement regulations and established zoning ordinances.
• Meets with and attempts to calm irate individuals by responding to their inquiries.
