Key Responsibilities
  • Possess clinical expertise in adult/pediatric patient conditions, determine appropriate care, deliver emergency care as needed, and explain therapy rationale with the attending physician.
  • Interact effectively with patients, families, visitors, and personnel from other healthcare organizations.
  • Interpret blood gases and manipulate ventilator parameters to meet therapeutic goals per physician orders.
  • Manage time to complete patient workload according to the prescribed schedule.
  • Document patient assessments and therapy in detail in patient and departmental records.
  • Perform pulmonary initial evaluation/assessment, provide in‑depth evaluation of patients with chronic lung conditions, and assess needs for inpatient stay and discharge planning.
  • Conduct Pulmonary Function Testing and promote the PFT program.
  • Apply quality assurance practices to monitor and record departmental metrics.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences.
  • Assist the clinical coordinator with developing and running the pulmonary rehabilitation program.
  • Use supplies and equipment properly for patient care:
    • In‑depth patient evaluation and development of plan of care
    • Medical Gas and Humidity Therapy
    • Patient Assessment and Monitoring
    • Mechanical Ventilation (Invasive and Non‑Invasive)
    • Pharmacology
    • Diagnostic Testing
    • Airway Management
    • Blood Gas Analysis
    • EKG
    • Pulmonary function testing
    • Patient education
Qualifications
  • Graduate of a Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of Arizona (licensure must be in good standing).
  • BLS through American Heart Association.
  • Experience educating patients with chronic lung conditions.
Preferences
  • ACLS certification.
  • PALS certification.
  • Completion of a COPD educator course.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • One‑year RCP experience with at least six months in adult/pediatric critical care.
  • Two years minimum experience with at least one year in adult/pediatric critical care.
  • Experience in pulmonary rehabilitation.
  • Experience in pulmonary function testing.
Work Requirements

Must be able to move/transport patients via wheelchair or gurney often. 80 to 90% of the time the therapist is standing, bending and/or reaching while working with patients. 10 to 20% of the time is spent sitting at a desk charting or reading charts. Frequently push, pull or carry equipment/supplies to patient area.
