The City of Kingman is seeking a Safety & Risk Specialist to support the administration of the City’s risk management and employee safety programs. This role performs entry-level work related to liability, property, worker's compensation, and automobile claims, and is responsible for supporting employee safety and loss control efforts. The Safety & Risk Specialist assists City departments and employees with safety training, accident and injury prevention and compliance support, to help ensure a safe workplace across all City operations.
This position works under the direct supervision of the Safety and Risk Manager.
- Associate’s Degree or two (2) years of college coursework in Risk Management, Public Administration, or Business Administration OR
- High school diploma or GED with an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the position
- Three (3) years of experience in accident and loss control programs, claims management, workers’ compensation, spreadsheet use, and training program development
- Associate in Risk Management (ARM) preferred
- Valid Arizona State Driver’s License
- Ability to maintain a high degree of organization, prioritization, coordination, communication, accuracy, and attention to detail
Support liability, property, and restitution claims by collecting and researching claim information, preparing reports, maintaining claim files, coordinating repairs or replacements, processing claim payments, and tracking subrogation. Participate in insurance surveys of City-owned property, facilities, and equipment and maintain related schedules and databases.
Workers’ Compensation & Injury Management (20%)Complete first reports of employee injury, file and track workers’ compensation claims, coordinate injured employee care, and monitor return-to-work and modified duty options. Maintain OSHA logs and databases tracking injuries, exposures, and medical records.
Safety Program Initiatives (20%)Provide support for the City-wide Safety Committee, maintain safety webpage content, assist departments with safety objectives. Serve as a safety resource for inquiries. Assist with and support the development of safety policies, training materials, safety quizzes, reports, and newsletters, and track employee safety training participation.
Inspections & Department Support (20%)Assist with safety inspections, accident and incident investigations, job hazard and risk assessments, and follow-up on corrective actions. Work closely with Safety and Risk Manager to review claims, injuries, and work assignments. Tactfully assist with the resolution of citizen complaints.
Compliance Support (15%)Maintain certificates of insurance, endorsements, notary bonds, and compliance records. Track active and archived claim and incident files, ensure records meet retention requirements, and develop statistical reports related to claims trends and loss control.
