The Yard Operations Lead is responsible for the full oversight and execution of yard operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and safety across all activities. This role plays a key part in maintaining inventory integrity, coordinating logistics, and supporting warehouse operations as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise yard personnel to ensure timely and accurate loading/unloading.
  • Train yard personnel on operational procedures and safety protocols.
  • Mentor yard personnel to support skill development, performance growth and personnel retention.
  • Maintain pipe inventory accuracy through regular cycle counts and reconciliation.
  • Design and maintain organized pipe layouts for optimal space utilization and accessibility.
  • Uphold high standards of housekeeping and yard cleanliness.
  • Pull work orders efficiently and ensure readiness for production or delivery.
  • Pull and stage all pipe orders for the next day to ensure readiness.
  • Serve as the double-check owner to verify accuracy in shipments and documentation.
  • Double check staged bundles for accuracy and completeness.
  • Double check loaded trucks before checkout to ensure correct and secure shipments.
  • Collaborate with the Shipping Coordinator to optimize the daily truck schedule and double check pipe piece count quantities.
  • Ensure all forklifts are in proper working order and report any maintenance needs promptly.
  • Lead or support cross-functional initiatives and improvement projects as assigned.
  • Manage the pipe cutting process to ensure safety, accuracy, efficiency, and proper storage.
Travel
  • Occasionally. May require overnight staying.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma.
  • 3 plus years of experience in an outdoor distribution work environment. Previous supervisory/leadership experience is a plus.
  • Experienced in inventory control, cycle counting and standard work instruction writing.
  • Able to organize, coordinate, and direct team activities. Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experienced in continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and 5S implementation.
  • Working knowledge of systems such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Transportation Management System (TMS), Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Microsoft Office.
  • Experienced in operating material handling equipment. Power Industrial Truck (PIT) certified is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate clearly across a variety of communication settings and adjusts communication style to the audience.
  • Views problems opportunities for improvement.
  • Understands and uses systems and tools for day-to-day operation. Navigates the various operations systems in order to retrieve data accurately and effectively.
  • A passion for customer satisfaction, world class service and continuous improvement.
  • Previous experience in a lean-Six Sigma continuous improvement is highly desirable.
  • Work is performed in a non-climate-controlled environment both inside and outside of building
Physical Requirements
  • Work may require standing and walking for up to 75% of the time
  • Work is physically strenuous and are required to lift heavy packages up to 75 pounds
  • Work may require excessive bending or stooping
