Street Maintenance Operations Supervisor

We are looking for a Street Maintenance Operations Supervisor to lead key maintenance and construction projects within our Public Works team. Reporting directly to the Assistant Public Works Director, you will plan, schedule, and prioritize daily tasks, mentor a dedicated crew, and ensure all work meets high-quality standards and deadlines.

We are looking for someone with a strong background in public works or construction, a knack for solving real-time field challenges, and a commitment to keeping our community's roadways safe and well-maintained.

What

You'll Need To Be Successful In This Role

Education and Experience

  • Graduation from a high school or GED, supplemented by course work or training in construction and maintenance.
  • Three to five (3-5) years' experience in construction and maintenance in the relevant field of the Public Works Division.
  • Two (2) years of supervising experience with supervisory experience in public sector preferred.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education, experience and training equivalent to the above minimum requirements.

Special Requirements

  • Valid Arizona Driver's license appropriate for the type of equipment being operated.
  • May require other specialized licenses or certifications not listed below depending on assignment.
  • Required to provide own hand tools.
  • Based on assignment, may be required to participate and obtain NIMS (National Incident Management System) training certifications.
  • Minimum of CDL – Class A;
    Endorsements as required by division. Traffic Control Supervisor certification is desired prior to interview. Successful applicants who do not have a current certification will be required to obtain one within 6 months of hire.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of construction and maintenance of City infrastructure, equipment, facilities, or fleet required in a comprehensive and progressive public works program.
  • Considerable knowledge of project and program management.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Asset Management, and best practices evaluation principles for construction and maintenance programming and scheduling.
  • State and Federal laws governing the construction and maintenance activities including OSHA standards, and state and federal regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Policies, rules and regulations governing the safety programs and policies.
  • Estimating, costing, ordering materials, and equipment scheduling:
    Plan review to determine materials, tools, equipment and sequence of work.
  • Budget principles and practices:
    Microsoft Office products and other relevant technologies.
  • Capital improvement and fiscal short and long range planning.
  • Leadership and management practices; and team building methods.
  • Make appropriate decision, verifying compliance with department policies, objectives and procedures, statutes, laws, rules, and regulations, and using initiative and independent judgement within established guidelines.
  • Directing and coordinating construction and maintenance projects and programs for City infrastructure, equipment, facilities, or fleet.
  • Developing and managing construction and maintenance plans, budgets, policies and procedures.
  • Exercising participative management skills, high levels of negotiation, and the ability to reach consensus on complex issues to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Independent judgement and decision making abilities are necessary to apply technical skills effectively.
  • Working effectively under stressful conditions and emergency situations.
  • Effectively managing situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness and sound judgement.
