Works under physician direction and the Arizona State Nurse Practice Act to provide nursing care in compliance with nursing standards and regulations. Utilizes the nursing process to make continuing assessments of the patient’s total health needs; implements nursing interventions based on assessment data;
develops and implements the nursing plan of care and evaluates the patient’s response. Provides excellent patient care with compassion, tact, cheerfulness, accuracy, patience, flexibility in scheduling, calmness in emergency, and ability to work well with team members, receiving and applying feedback from peers and superiors. Assists with orientation of new staff to the unit as requested. All care is provided with kindness and compassion.
Quality of Care and Nursing Process
- The nurse provides evidence-based care to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions.
- The nurse practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials.
Assessment
- Nursing assessments are completed according to hospital and unit specific policies, procedures, and standards of nursing care.
- Collects pertinent data from the patient, significant others, and health care providers.
- A comprehensive patient history and physical is completed in a timely manner and includes biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self‑care abilities, educational, age specific, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
Diagnosis / Care Needs
- Nursing diagnoses / care needs are derived from the assessment data.
- Involving the patient and significant other as appropriate, the nurse formulates a plan to provide appropriate care based on identified patient needs.
Implementation
- Nursing care is based on identified nursing diagnoses / care needs.
- Nursing care is based on standards of patient care.
Evaluation
- Evaluation of the patient’s response to nursing care is evident in the ongoing assessment data.
- Nursing diagnoses / care needs are revised based on reassessment data.
- Coordination of Nursing Personnel
- Coordination of Patient Care Quality and Patient Satisfaction
- Coordination of Nursing Process and Compliance
Education
Associate Degree in Nursing or graduate of a Nursing Diploma program.
Certification/Licensure
- Current, valid Arizona RN license or compact state RN license
- Current BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Unit Specific Requirements
- Medical Surgical Units: Basic EKG competency within 3 months of hire.
- Pediatrics: PALS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required within 6 months of hire.
- Intensive Care Unit/Progressive Care Unit: ACLS certification required upon hire;
Basic EKG competency within 30 days of hire. - Women’s Services: NRP certification required within 6 months of hire/transfer; ACLS within 3 months of hire; S.T.A.B.L.E. within 6 months of hire; AWHONN Fetal Monitor Course (Basic within 6 months, Intermediate within 12 months).
- Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS certification required within 3 months of hire;
Emergency Severity Index (ESI) training required within 6 months; TNCC required within 24 months. - Hemodialysis: ACLS certification;
Basic ECG within 3 months of hire. - Clinical Decision Unit: Basic EKG competency within 3 months of hire.
- ECHO: ACLS certification;
Basic ECG competency within 30 days of hire. - Surgical Services/Circulator: ACLS and PALS within 90 days;
Basic EKG within 30 days; minimum five years experience for full‑time weekend, evening, or night shift; minimum one year experience in specific specialties if seasonal. - Surgical Services/PACU/Outpatient: ACLS and PALS within 90 days; minimum one year experience in acute care or med‑surg;
