Position
Purpose:

Key Responsibilities- Utilize the roles of educator, consultant, researcher and leader in collaboration with Leadership. Actively participate in regulatory compliant, quality improvement projects to promote improved nursing-sensitive patient outcomes.
- In a secondary role, develop and maintain electronic applications necessary to meet the needs of Surgical Services for improved patient safety and care delivery efficiency through collaboration with Nursing Leadership and Health Information Technology (HIT).
- Develop a standardized orientation program to promote successful integration of staff into their designated roles in the department.
- Oversee new staff competencies throughout the orientation process and individualize training pathways based on learning needs and scope of practice in collaboration with Nursing Leadership.
- Maintain updated documentation on yearly competencies for departmental staff.
- Evaluate educational needs within the department and address individual and/or unit-specific training opportunities.
- Provide and/or coordinate all mandated in-service programs to maintain compliance with applicable regulatory agencies.
- Establish patient teaching guidelines and assist staff in provision of education through collaboration with Nursing Leadership.
- Make rounds throughout the Surgical Services department to ensure adherence to guidelines from AORN, SGNA, ASPAN, ANSI, HSPA, and AAMI.
- Demonstrate flexibility to meet educational needs of staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the department and organization.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology, First Assisting, or Nursing Program.
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years perioperative experience with demonstrated excellence in the field.
- Certification: BLS, ACLS, and PALS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- License: Current, valid Arizona licensure or compact RN license, if RN.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent communication and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to accept and implement change; evidence of continuing professional growth with membership in a professional nursing organization; knowledge of electronic documentation systems and computer expertise.

Position Requirements
Exposure Category I:
Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
- Able to assist with the movement of an adult patient weighing up to 300 lbs.
- Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
- Ability to sit for 3-5 hours per day.
- Able to stand for 3-5 hours per day.
- Able to walk for 3-5 hours a day.
