Job Preview at a Glance

The Crisis Unit provides behavioral health interventions in a structured, non-hospital setting that assists adults in resolving behavioral crisis. Services are provided in a locked facility with 24‑hour nursing coverage on the premises, court‑ordered treatment is also provided. The shifts are 12‑hour shifts 7 am‑7 pm or 7 pm‑7 am.

Responsibilities
  • Work as part of a multi‑disciplinary clinical team to provide recovery‑based services in a secure environment for consumers in varying levels of crisis.
  • Takes leadership role in operating the unit in the psychiatrist’s absence and supervises clinical staff.
  • Provides nursing assessment, develops medical service plans, obtains and executes medication orders from psychiatric prescribers, and maintains medication records in accordance with agency policies and state regulations.
  • Coordinates medical care with psychiatric prescribers and primary care providers, ensuring safe and productive operation of the program.
  • Serves as a role model of professional behavior at all times.
Location & Schedule

This position is a PRN work‑as‑needed basis, reporting to our Kingman Crisis/Recovery Unit. Availability is needed to work on days from 7 am‑7 pm. Shift differential is offered.

Skills / Requirements
  • Must be licensed in the State of Arizona and have one‑to‑two years experience in psychiatric nursing.
  • Experience in a community‑based psychiatric practice is preferred.
  • Documentation of education, relevant experience, and credentials required.
  • Must complete a pre‑employment physical examination and TB test.
  • Thorough comprehension of psychiatric practice and knowledge of psychiatric medications, indications, common side effects, reactions, and interactions.
  • Ability to work with agitated service participants in crisis and their families, implementing behavioral management interventions to defuse and de‑escalate participants and document services.
  • Knowledge of Arizona Mental Health Law, the petition process, State of Arizona Nursing Rules and Regulations, and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Can perform duties with minimal supervision, direct and supervise a team, and function as a team member while communicating clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
