PART‑TIME PARK RANGER – City of Kingman.

About the Role

The City of Kingman is located in Mohave County approximately 100 miles southeast of Las Vegas and 195 miles northwest of Phoenix, nestled between the beautiful Cerbat and Hualapai Mountain Ranges along historic Route 66. The city offers a wide range of recreational activities including hiking, bike and ATV trails, camping, golf, parks, historical attractions, nearby lakes, and the Colorado River.

General

Description of Position

This semi‑skilled position enforces use of courts, fields, and picnic areas, observes activities to ensure a safe environment for park patrons, assesses situations, resolves problems, and calls for police when necessary. The role provides effective, professional, courteous customer service to park guests.

Supervision

Works under general supervision of office staff. No supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience
  • Some public contact experience and completion of high school or GED; OR
  • Any combination of education, experience, and training that demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Special Requirements
  • Valid Arizona state driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 6 months.
Responsibilities
  • Assist park patrons by providing information, direction, and education, responding to complaints, inquiries, and information requests.
  • Assist with recreation program and activities: set up and take down equipment for various park and recreation programs, preparing facilities for program use.
  • Observe and assess activities to identify inappropriate, unsafe, or suspicious behavior; resolve issues, notify police if escalation occurs.
  • Drive to park facilities, walk grounds, or use golf cart to observe activities and travel throughout the park.
  • Inspect City facilities and grounds for unsafe conditions, vandalism, and graffiti; correct unsafe conditions, document corrections, and report findings.
  • Monitor sporting events, recreational and special events, enforce park rules, provide guidance and counseling to park patrons.
  • Turn lights on and off for sporting events as required; lock and unlock restrooms.
  • Open and close fields, courts, and buildings per reservations.
  • Maintain, clean, and stock park restrooms and facilities.
  • Complete accident and related reports.
  • Collect and dispose of solid waste, pick up litter from premises.
  • Provide excellent and proficient customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Communicate and act in a professional manner with the public, co‑workers, and work contacts.
  • Maintain regular attendance; may be required to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures; follow safety policies and practices; report unsafe activity and conditions.
Peripheral Duties
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Perform special assignments as requested.
Knowledge

Working knowledge of City park and recreation ordinances, regulations, codes, permits, and enforcement techniques; basic knowledge of general custodial practices and maintenance;
City park and recreation areas and facilities.

Skills

Skill in the effective, safe operation of listed tools and equipment; adherence to safety standards; identifying safety problems; promoting and enforcing safe work practices.
