Job Purpose &
Description:
The role of a QA Lead hand is to ensure a quality product is delivered to our customers by performing all required quality tests safely and accurately. The Lead Hand will also provide support, training, and mentoring to QA inspectors/technicians, and support the QA Manager in various leadership tasks where appropriate.
- Lead, train, and mentor QA inspectors/technicians, both existing and new hires.
- Provide applicable QA training to operators as needed.
- Competently operate all machinery and equipment pertaining to testing of PVC, Polyethylene, and ABS products and the quality control of production and raw materials.
- Perform testing: impact testing, burst testing, stiffness and flattening testing.
- Operate and maintain on‑line marking systems (Keyence, Videojet inkjet printers, and hot stamp printers).
- Measure, test, visually inspect all product manufactured by the Company in accordance with both internal and external standards; record all information in the QA line inspection sheet.
- Ensure adequate written records are kept of all quality control information generated internally.
- Immediately report in writing to the QA Manager any deviation from the external or internal standards used by the Company.
- Carry out secondary checks on product in stock and on products returned by customers for compliance with company’s standards.
- Identify product by using a labelling system once it has met the internal and external standards of the company.
- Proactively monitor data system to ensure accuracy of information and change status as it relates to QA testing and production problems (defects).
- Perform tool verification and maintain records relating to ISOP

60 – Monitoring and Measurement of Manufactured Products. - Participate in the internal/external audits required to maintain multiple certifications.
- Perform other functions assigned by the Manager as deemed necessary that fall outside the scope of this list.
- High School Diploma and/or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience with plastic extrusion process preferred.
- Forklift certificate preferred – internal training available.
- ISO 9001:2015 experience an asset.
- Must be able to read a micrometer, OD tape, vernier calipers, and measuring tape and apply findings to QA line inspection sheet.
- Spoken Communication – speak and present basic findings and initiatives in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
- Written Communication – support the writing of basic procedures in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
- Productivity and Software – strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS), electronic documentation control, data analysis, and ERP systems in a manufacturing or regulated environment.
- Troubleshooting/Diagnosis – assess reported workplace issues and deviations following a structured approach and ensure decisions are made based on policies, rules, and organizational directives.
- Mechanical Aptitude – understand basic physical principles quickly and apply them to various scenarios.
- Coordinate Initiatives – bring different subject matter experts together to share ideas, create action plans, and coordinate task execution.
- Continuous Improvement – seek to continuously improve work practices and look for new and unique approaches to achieve better outcomes.
- Observation and Memory – observe processes or people carefully to gain qualitative information and recollect information from training and prior experiences.
- Critical Thinking – execute 5‑Why to identify underlying reasons for observations and proposed solutions; separate facts from opinions.
- Safety and 5S Discipline – apply safe work practices such as LOTO and OSHA, handle chemicals responsibly, maintain clean and organized work areas using 5S principles, and actively identify hazards.
