Traffic Control Technician – Mohave County Public Works Department
The mission of the Traffic Control division is to ensure the safe and efficient movement of persons and goods throughout the Mohave County road network. We are located at 3715 Sunshine Drive, Kingman, AZ.
About the PositionThis entry‑level position requires setting up and maintaining traffic control devices for work zones.
- Work schedule:
Monday–Thursday (four days/10‑hour shift) - May need to work weekends or holidays depending on circumstances
- Occasional overtime and travel within Mohave County are possible
- Interaction with the public
Hiring range: $17.36–$20.73 per hour (Range 9, Steps 1‑7)
- Must pass pre‑employment background screening
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license at all times

- Read, interpret, and implement detailed work‑zone traffic control plans according to MUTCD and department policies
- Adhere to government guidelines for signage location and standards for public safety
- Use computer skills for data entry, web navigation, and e‑mail
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities, materials used, and time spent; set up and maintain portable message boards
- Clean, maintain, and repair work‑zone devices, equipment, and tools; maintain an accurate inventory of signs, barricades, and equipment
- Ensure adequate supply of materials, equipment, and tools needed for assignments
- Use hand tools and equipment to assemble, install, and repair traffic control devices; install chip‑seal tabs
- Assist in spotting and zoning roads for paint striping
- Operate forklift to support operations
- Provide support to the litter removal program
- Conduct daily safety inspections of vehicles and equipment; follow all safety rules
- High school diploma or GED
- Prior experience in construction or a related field with installation and maintenance of work‑zone signs, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that meets required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Basic computer skills
- Clear understanding of department policies, rules, procedures, and personnel regulations
- Ability to communicate professionally with the public, coworkers, and work contacts
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; effective oral and written communication; adaptability to a variety of job assignments; establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
- Obtain forklift operation and flagger certifications within six months of appointment
- Obtain ATSSA Traffic Control Technician certification within one year of appointment
