Sign And Marking Technician

The City of Kingman is seeking a Sign and Marking Technician who will be responsible for the fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control signs, pavement markings, and related regulatory and warning devices. This position conducts routine inspections and preventive maintenance of assigned equipment, identifies defects or maintenance needs, and reports required repairs to the supervisor.

If you enjoy working in a team environment, are comfortable performing manual labor in varying weather conditions, and can safely operate and maintain hand and power tools and equipment, this position may be for you. You have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and adhere to established safety procedures and practices.

You can also utilize computer hardware and software to perform file management and graphic design tasks.

What You'll Need To Be Successful In This Role
  • Graduation from high school diploma or GED equivalent;
  • Three (3) or more years of experience as Sign Technician or related field involving fabrication and installation of signs, including some experience in pavement marking, to include operation of commercial vehicles for transporting pavement marking equipment and materials.
  • Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.
  • Class B CDL Preferred.
What You'll Do For The City Of Kingman

Sign Fabrication, Inventory & Materials Management (35%) – You will be required to effectively utilize computer systems and applications in the performance of work assignments, involving the use of high-speed plotters, printers, and other automated and manual sign-making equipment. Including file management and graphic design. Maintain an adequate supply of materials, equipment, and tools. Tracks all signs, seals, labels, and decals for appropriate inventory.

Traffic Control Device Installation & Maintenance (30%) – In this role, you will determine appropriate signage and placement of traffic control signs. Installs or assists in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices. Installs, maintains, and removes temporary traffic control devices related to maintenance activities, special events, and accidents. Controls traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned.

Equipment Operation and Safety Compliance (20%) - Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment; effectively operates and maintains hand and power tools and equipment. Adheres to established governmental guidelines for uniformity, proper location of signs, and meeting standards in the interest of public safety. Adheres to safety procedures in work areas and in the performance of work assignments.

Customer Service and Communication (15%) - Provides customer service and demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills in interactions with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public to effectively exchange information and receive work direction. Delivers excellent service to all contacts. Establishes and maintains effective, cooperative working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
