The City of Kingman is seeking an experienced Airport Operations and Maintenance Specialist II to perform advanced journey-level maintenance and technical work to support airport field assets. This role focuses on the installation, diagnostics, inspection, and repair of airfield lighting, automatic gates, navigational aids, and tenant hangars, alongside broader airfield grounds upkeep. Work is performed with a high level of independence and technical responsibility, occasionally requiring leadership over small crews and participation in emergency accident responses.
AboutYou
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years of airport operations and maintenance experience with an emphasis on automatic gate diagnostics/repair, hangar door diagnostics/repair, and airfield lighting diagnostics/repair.
- Supplemental education or technical training in a field related to airport maintenance and operations through an FAA recognized training facility, technical school or equivalent, accredited college or university desired.
- Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, experience, critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to perform the assigned work.
- Skilled in using Microsoft Word and Excel applications in creating documents and spreadsheets.
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License or ability to obtain one upon hire (obtain within 90 days of hire).
- Based on assignment, may be required to participate and obtain OSHA work site safety training certifications.
- Based on assignment, may be required to participate and obtain NIMS (National Incident Management System) training certifications.
- Arizona pest management applicator certificate (obtain within 6 months of hire).
Performs a wide variety of semi-skilled, skilled, and technical repairs, alterations, remodels, and preventative maintenance to protect and extend the life of all City airport assets. This includes diagnosing and servicing specialized airport equipment such as automatic gate diagnostics/repairs, hangar door mechanisms, and high-voltage electrical work, as well as handling broader infrastructure needs like asphalt repair and painting. Key tasks also involve executing targeted field maintenance such as herbicide application, managing general custodial duties, and safely moving heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies manually or with hand trucks.
Inspections,Regulatory Compliance & Reporting (25%)
Conducts federally mandated daily inspections of the airfield to guarantee safe operations and maintains absolute alignment with FAA rules and regulations. Responsibilities include creating detailed drawings and written estimates for small remodel projects, tracking and updating Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemical supplies to submit to Risk Management, and drafting required reports or procedural documentation. Employees are expected to maintain an active knowledge of proper airfield safety practices, immediately notify supervisors of major required repairs, and continuously look for ways to streamline operations and decrease project turnaround times.
CrewLeadership & Project Coordination (20%)
Assists in the planning, scheduling, and assignment of daily work schedules for airport maintenance crews to ensure balanced workloads and continuous operational coverage. As assigned, provides direct training and supervision to department personnel, temporary employees, community service workers, or DOC inmate workers. This function includes providing technical expertise to airport staff, prioritizing service requests in consultation with leadership, and monitoring the work of outside contractors to ensure tasks are completed correctly and up to City standards.
