Position Summary

The Compliance Officer position will be responsible for ensuring that the Gaming Operation is regulated in a manner that protects the health and safety of the patrons, employees, and the assets of the Catawba Nation. The Compliance Officer will also be responsible for monitoring the gaming floor which includes reviewing and investigating incidents and violations, patron disputes, promotions and marketing, exclusions, environmental public health and safety, and compliance reviews in the Catawba Indian Nation Jurisdiction.

Functions
  • Review marketing promotions for compliance with regulations before final approval.
  • Maintain patron exclusion list and assess repeal requests completing a report for Commission decision making.
  • Complete Facility Licensing process and maintain up to date records throughout the year.
  • Review policy and procedures for compliance before final approval.
  • Perform investigations into suspected regulatory infractions.
  • Create checklist for compliance reviews for different areas of gaming including Promotions, Sports Wagering, Environmental Public, Health, and Safety, Operation Employee Training, and Financial Reviews.
  • Monitor and interact with the Gaming Operation to ensure the gaming floor is operating according to established regulations and department policies and procedures; confirm that all CINGC regulations and requirements are being satisfied.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department

Qualifications Qualifications Experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in regulatory compliance within a gaming or highly regulated environment.
Education
  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, business administration, or related field preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Must obtain and maintain a Catawba Gaming Commission license.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must undergo a Criminal Background Investigation done under the rules of the National Indian Gaming Commission.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid license as required by the Catawba Nation Gaming Commission.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of NIGC Internal controls, Tribal-State Compact, tribal gaming regulations, and Ordinance.
  • Ability to analyze technical data, logs, and system configurations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and handle sensitive information.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be knowledgeable about modern methods of surveillance and security, fire safety procedures, detainment and arrest procedures, investigative techniques, and handling evidence.
  • Working knowledge of Tribal Gaming Ordinance, Tribal Gaming Commission Internal Controls, NIGC regulations, and Casino Policies and Procedure standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
  • Ability to perform investigations using computer software and data analytics.
  • Ability to perform assigned job duties in highly interruptive conditions under constant time pressures.
  • Ability to maintain visual attention and mental concentration for significant periods of time.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret numerical data, including statistical information, and produce organized and clear reports.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with gaming vendors, gaming operation staff, and patrons.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Position requires shift work including weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage as assigned.
  • Work hours may vary based on operational needs, regulatory inspections, or incidents.
  • Position requires frequent movement throughout the casino gaming floors, network rooms, storage areas, and other secure locations.
  • Physical requirements include bending, kneeling, couching, squatting, reaching and standing for extended periods while completing, inspecting, or observing slot machines and gaming equipment installation.
  • Occasional lifting and moving of gaming components, software, and/or equipment.
  • Exposure to confidential, sensitive, and regulated information is routine.
