Superintendent of Construction
This position is for an experienced Superintendent who will oversee ground‑up commercial construction projects from initial site clearing through final closeout. The role suits a hands‑on field leader who excels at coordinating subcontractors, managing schedules, and maintaining clear communication while working within a structured, repeatable project environment. Projects follow standardized programs supported by historical data, detailed checklists, and collaborative field leadership, enabling the Superintendent to focus on execution, quality, safety, and schedule performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead ground‑up commercial construction projects from grubbing and site clearing through final completion and closeout.
- Manage and coordinate all subcontractor activities on site to ensure work is completed safely, on time, and to quality standards.
- Enforce project standards, quality control measures, and safety protocols throughout all phases of construction.
- Produce consistent and accurate field documentation, including daily reports, progress photos, and Job Hazard Analyses.
- Develop, update, and maintain four‑week look‑ahead schedules that clearly communicate upcoming work activities.
- Review and break down four‑week look‑ahead schedules with subcontractors on a weekly basis to align expectations and commitments.
- Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings to address sequencing, site logistics, safety, and schedule milestones.
- Communicate effectively and proactively with project management and field leadership to report progress, issues, and resource needs.
- Participate in ongoing collaboration with other superintendents to share best practices and continuously improve field operations.
- Maintain momentum, make timely decisions, and drive solutions in a fast‑paced construction environment.
- Utilize construction management tools and software, such as Procore, to support documentation, scheduling, and project controls.
- Oversee both ground‑up construction and tenant improvement activities as needed, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
Essential Skills
- 7–10+ years of Superintendent experience on ground‑up commercial construction projects.
- Proven experience managing projects from site work through final closeout.
- Strong track record of subcontractor management and coordination on active job sites.
- Demonstrated ability to operate within standardized programs and repeatable build processes.
- Solid understanding of construction scheduling, documentation, and field controls.
- Experience using construction management software, including Procore.
- Strong knowledge of safety practices and protocols, including OSHA standards.
- Experience in construction supervision within a commercial general contracting environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.
- Competence in project management, including planning, sequencing, and progress tracking.
- Commitment to quality control and adherence to project specifications and standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with restaurant, retail, dental, medical, or small grocery construction projects.
- Background in tenant improvement projects in addition to ground‑up construction.
- Familiarity with site construction and retail build‑outs.
- OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training.
- Experience working within a collaborative superintendent culture.
- Comfort working in a structured environment with clear expectations and proven systems.
- Exposure to both general contractor operations and subcontractor coordination.
- Ability to contribute to continuous improvement by sharing best practices with other field leaders.
Work Environment
The role is based in the field on ground‑up commercial construction and tenant improvement projects, including environments such as restaurant, retail, dental, medical, and small grocery facilities.
