CEI Roadway and Bridge Construction Inspector

CDM Smith's CEI team in Kingsport, TN is seeking a candidate to inspect and monitor construction activities at the project site(s). The inspector must be able to perform the most complex inspection activities for at least two of the five categories of construction inspection:
1) Roadway
2) Bridges
3) Drainage
4) Erosion & Control
5) Maintenance & Traffic. The candidate will work under limited or direct supervision depending on demonstrated knowledge for the assignment. Work requires knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction; geometry and basic mathematics; and the ability to read, interpret, explain construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, specifications, and communicate effectively.

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certifications from a State Highway Agency or National Entity such as ACI or NICET in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete if required by the client or jurisdiction in which they will be working.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Six years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

An appropriate and valid driver's license is required.

• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
• Intermediate knowledge of arithmetic.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer, smartphone, or related applications and programs.
• Advanced knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
• Ability to read, understand, interpret, and explain construction plans, drawings, contract provisions, and specifications.
