Seasonal Junior Camp Counselor - Bays Mountain Park; Seasonal​/Temporary

Do you enjoy working with kids, being outdoors, and helping create meaningful summer experiences? The City of Kingsport is seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and positive individuals to join our seasonal camp team as Junior Camp Counselors. This position is ideal for high school and college students interested in education, recreation, environmental science, or related fields who want hands‑on experience supporting youth programs in a park setting.

Junior Camp Counselors assist with daily camp operations and activities while helping create a safe, fun, and welcoming environment where children can explore nature, build confidence, and learn through play.

The applicant is required to have full availability from May 27th to July 31st.

• Assist in supervising and engaging campers during educational, recreational, and outdoor activities.
• Support lead counselors and senior staff with camp programs focused on nature, science, and environmental education.
• Help maintain a safe and positive environment by following camp rules and behavior expectations.
• Interact positively with campers, parents/guardians, staff, and the general public.
• Assist with daily camp operations, including activity set-up, clean‑up, and transitions.
• Serve as a positive role model for campers by demonstrating teamwork, responsibility, and enthusiasm.
• Follow all City of Kingsport policies, safety procedures, and program guidelines.

• Education:
  
  Current high school student or high school graduate; college students encouraged to apply.
• Interest or coursework in education, natural history, environmental science, recreation, or a related field preferred.
• Ability to work well with children and youth in group settings.
• Willingness to take direction and work as part of a team.
• Basic communication skills and ability to interact professionally with campers and the public.
• After a reasonable period of orientation, the candidate must be able to:
  • Assist with camp activities and educational programs.
  • Follow established schedules and safety procedures.
  • Work under the guidance of the senior counselor, and the supervision of the Recreation Park Ranger.
