Instrument Engineer

Overview

Position:
Instrumentation Engineer – Senior Design (Kingsport, TN). This role involves the routine design of less complex engineering assignments and assisting with larger, complex electrical and instrumentation projects under close supervision.

Relocation assistance may be offered for eligible candidates who reside more than 75 miles from the Kingsport office. The role requires onsite presence.

• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders (engineering disciplines, project managers, operations, procurement) to ensure seamless project integration.
• Lead and manage the execution of instrumentation scope of work for the selected engineering service provider in all phases (Pre‑FEED, FEED, and Detail Design).
• Define discipline activity lists, deliverables, and schedules.
• Generate detailed lists of critical information to be monitored.
• Track actual progress, forecast, and check discipline activities.
• Coordinate evaluation of design changes against the original scope and verify implementation of approved changes.
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents, ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations (ISO, ANSI, IEEE, etc.).
• Conduct thorough reviews and quality control checks to ensure compliance with design specifications and project requirements.
• Stay current on advancements and trends in instrument engineering, particularly within the chemical industry, and identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement.
• Utilize software tools such as Intools, Bluebeam, Navisworks, AVEVA Engineering, or equivalent to support engineering activities and enhance project efficiency.

• Bachelor or Master of Science in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Instrument/Control Engineering from an accredited university (required).
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant industrial experience in instrumentation and control engineering with a focus on the chemical industry.
• Experience with relay‑based logic panels, generic PLC operation, fiber optics, radio networks, multiplexer systems, digital instrumentation, operator graphics display, and digital systems integration preferred.
• Ability to mentor and develop less experienced team members.
• Proven experience working on a project team of engineers, with excellent leadership and communication skills.
• Familiarity with capital stage‑gate process and project execution.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize & manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and standards related to instrumentation engineering in the chemical industry.
