Principal Mechanical Engineer – Federal Projects
Parsons is hiring an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to support major federal infrastructure projects. The role involves design functions for refurbishment and renovation of complex facilities, infrastructure, equipment, and systems, working closely with BIM specialists and designers to review drawings and provide technical input for procurement and installation.
The position will be based in our new design center office in Kingsport, Tennessee, with occasional on‑site construction support across the United States. The role requires a State of Tennessee Professional Engineer Registration or the ability to obtain one, and the ability to travel or relocate as needed.
What You’ll Be Doing- Perform complex engineering tasks efficiently and accurately.
- Extract engineering information from CAD drawings.
- Prepare engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys and designs.
- Complete drawings, specifications and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes.
- Prepare detailed requisitions for equipment and materials.
- Prepare and issue specifications, data sheets and other construction documents.
- Provide technical guidance to CAD designers, drafters, designers and junior engineers.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical design issues.
- Mentor and train junior process engineers.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field and at least 10+ years of related work experience.
- Professional Engineer Registration in the State of Tennessee or ability to obtain one.
- Willingness to travel or relocate to supplier, client, or construction site locations.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with industry practices and regulations.
- Proficiency with engineering software and ability to select and apply appropriate tools on project.
