Job Type: Full-Time Nights 7:00 pm-7:00 am, rotating weekends.
Location: Etowah, TN.
Sign-On Bonus: $20,000 (available for qualified applicants).
Job OverviewStarr Regional Medical Center’s Behavioral Health unit is a 24-bed facility specializing in dementia with behavioral disturbances for patients aged 50 and above. The unit operates a 1:7 nurse‑to‑patient ratio, is attached to an emergency department, and provides 24/7 medical and psychiatric oversight.
Responsibilities- Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patient's condition.
- Establishes a plan of care which is appropriate to problems identified and involves the patient according to his or her capabilities and desires.
- Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
- Assists in determining staffing levels and assignments based on staff availability, staff abilities, census, patient acuity and work/patient flow.
- Provides direct patient care as needed.
- Floats between staff to assist with problem-solving.
- Takes patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
- Responds to complaints about patient care and related services, and manages through established channels.
- Performs role‑specific duties as assigned, including entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers.
- Ensures staff has necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe, quality patient care.
- Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
- Documents patient care given.
- Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
- Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
- Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
- Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well‑being of the patient.

- Education: Associate’s degree required; BSN preferred.
- Required Skills: Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision and in a stressful environment.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire;
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of hire or department transfer. - Licenses: Licensed Registered Nurse in Tennessee or from a Compact State with proper Tennessee paperwork filed within 30 days of hire.
