Metal Craft Marine is a designer and builder of high performance aluminum work boats. We serve customers around the globe and take pride in building the perfect boat for each customer’s unique needs.
Position SummaryPerforms welding of aluminum for the construction of hulls, cabins, and other structures. Completes both MIG (majority) and TIG work using welding machine, wire brush, grinder, and other small hand tools to complete the job. Keeps work area clean, tidy, and safe. Installs finished parts and components such as hatches, trim, seats, cabinets, and windshields to the interior and exterior of the boat in a safe and timely manner.
Handles electrical mounting and troubleshooting tasks using 12/24 volt DC systems, 120/240 volt AC systems, crimping, terminating, routing, and guarding of wires. Provides general shop support including daily maintenance of personal welding machine, preparing weld area, and adhering to shop safety policies.
- Daily maintenance of personal welding machine
- Prepare area for welding; assist fitters as needed
- Weld in flat, horizontal, overhead, and constrained positions using MIG and TIG equipment to produce strong, quality welds
- Take measurements, lay out work and calculate material requirements
- Read and interpret drawings, plans, wiring diagrams, and wire colours
- Install and route electrical components, and troubleshoot using a multimeter
- Build and assemble finished components (hatches, trim, seats, cabinets, windshields)
- Work in tight or unconventional spaces, awkward postures, and small, compact areas
- Ensure shop safety policies are followed at all times
- Perform shop tasks safely, with punctual and consistent attendance; willing to work overtime as needed to meet deadlines
- Lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive movements (grip, grasp, stand for long periods)
- Experience with 12/24 volt DC systems and 120/240 volt AC electrical systems
- Experience installing electrical components, wire crimping, terminating, routing, guarding, and troubleshooting
- Good at reading and interpreting wiring diagrams and wire colours
- Ability to read and interpret assembly, build, and weld drawings
- Experience in welding aluminum (MIG and TIG) and use of hand tools such as grinder, chop‑saw, wire brush
- Knowledge of ABYC standards; willingness to obtain ABYC certification
- Demonstrated attention to detail and safety commitment
- Strong communication skills and ability to work both as part of a team and independently
- Understanding of wire/filler material applications, weld set‑up parameters for various steel alloys
- Willingness to learn new concepts, techniques, and skill sets; ability to adapt to new plans and ideas
- Experience in carpentry or cabinet making (asset)
- Ability to work in loud and dusty work environment; adapt to small, compact areas (asset)
Position Location: Kingston, ON
Position Status: Full-time (40 hours minimum)
Work Schedule: Monday – Thursday; 6:45 am - 5:15 pm
Reports to: Production Supervisor
