Family Education Coordinator
The Cornell Cooperative Extension Ulster County (CCEUC) Family Education Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing family educational programs benefiting the health and welfare of Ulster County families. The main objective is to establish a coordinated system of caregiver-focused education and support programs to meet the diverse needs of Ulster County families. Primary program responsibilities include managing the Relatives as Parents Program (RAPP) and general parenting education as well as the development and implementation of caregiver support groups, youth & teen programming, educational workshops, and building community partnerships.
The position is responsible for RAPP grant management and program development. Working with the 4-H Youth and Families Program Leader, the Family Education Coordinator develops program objectives and plans of work within the assigned areas of responsibility. Responsible for representing the Association and Program to the public, community leaders, government officials, and Cornell University. May work as a team member in addressing local, regional and statewide programming priorities.
This is a part-time, 28 hours per week, benefits eligible position.
- Master's Degree in Human Ecology, Education, Sociology, Psychology or Related Field
- Two years' experience relevant to the role of the position particularly experience with support groups and/or working with kinship families
- Demonstrated ability to lead and to relate effectively to program staff, co-workers, advisors, community and professional leaders, clientele and diverse groups/audiences and involve people in determining program direction.
- Ability to assist in grant writing and reporting.
- Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional educational tools as well as digital media.
- Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively with advisory boards and committees, community and funding partners.
- Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
- Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
- Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
- Fluency in Spanish.
- Ability to design and implement an effective marketing plan for the program.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed education practices.
- Familiarity with evidence-based best practices for child development.
- 1-2 years' experience working directly with youth with developmental disabilities.
Essential Functions:
Program Responsibilities:
Program Assessment - 10%
- Assist in reviewing program assessment to be sure it is aligned with the scope of the statewide and Association Plan of Work, developing and enhancing assessment where needed.
- Work with local community partners to identify gaps and trends in the community, as well as state and national partners to identify trends in needs of clientele.
- Apply subject matter knowledge to identify local program needs in collaboration with advisory group, community agencies, and program participants.
- May assist in multi-association team efforts to identify regional program needs in collaboration with regional CCE partners, advisory groups, community agencies and program participants
- Make recommendations for programmatic offerings, enhancements or improvements.
Program Development - 25%
- Apply the subject matter knowledge to develop educational strategies to meet the needs of diverse program participants, and to achieve identified program priorities and goals.
- Create innovative educational programs, adhering to the statewide plan of work, identifying and utilizing existing resources, selecting, adapting and creating curricula as needed.
- Utilize local community agencies and organizations that serve on relevant advisory committees and coalitions, as well as relevant state and national agencies and organizations, as resources for the development of programs to meet the needs of participants.
- Make programmatic changes based on program evaluation outcomes.
- May be involved in regional team efforts to develop program to address priority issues.
- May assist in application of a high level of disciplinary subject matter knowledge to develop educational strategies.
- May assist in development of program to meet changing regional issues and/or changing multi-association issues.
Program Delivery - 20%
- Apply in depth family and parenting education knowledge to create and implement lesson plans, identifying resources and activities necessary to deliver high quality parent and family educational programs to include nutrition, finance, navigation the legal system and health and wellness components, within the scope of the Association and statewide Plan of Work.
