Staff Accountant

Location: Kingston, NY
Salary Range: $65,000–$70,000

We are seeking a dedicated Staff Accountant to join the finance team of a well-established hospital and its affiliated entities. This position is well-suited for an accounting professional who enjoys owning their work, working independently, and contributing to a mission-driven environment.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Prepare and review monthly and annual financial statements for multiple entities, meeting established close deadlines

  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, balance sheet reconciliations, and audit-ready schedules

  • Record both recurring and non-routine journal entries, including accruals and prepaid expense analysis

  • Manage required internal and external reporting, including financial surveys, IRS filings, cost pools, and cash receipt assessments

  • Support annual budgeting and ICR reporting processes

  • Compile and maintain schedules for annual tax filings (Forms 990, 1120, and CHAR
    500)

  • Prepare the Consolidated Fiscal Report for Special Needs Preschool programs

  • Analyze monthly expense trends and FTE budget variances, identifying notable fluctuations and opportunities

  • Track and reconcile capital leases and long-term debt obligations

  • Maintain and update fixed asset schedules, including additions, disposals, and depreciation

  • Partner with hospital departments to respond to accounting and finance-related questions

  • Maintain key financial data tables, system interfaces, and reporting tools

  • Reconcile daily cash activity and bank statements, ensuring accuracy and completeness

  • Prepare weekly cash disbursement reports

  • Escalate complex or unresolved issues to management and assist with special projects as needed

What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

  • Healthcare or multi-entity experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting

  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities

  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
