Under the direction of the Director of Recreational Sports, the Recreational Sports Coordinator (Esports, Bowling and Camps) will have direct oversight of the TAMUK Varsity Esports team, the bowling alley, and internal and external camps. The Coordinator will serve as facility manager for the Javelina Gaming Lounge and bowling alley and is responsible for effective supervision and communication with student and part‑time employees to provide exemplary recreational programming.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Program Oversight, Operations & Facilities
- Oversee all operational and logistical planning for the Esports program.
- Manage daily operations of the Javelina Gaming Lounge and TAMUK Bowling Alley, including scheduling, equipment, and facility organization.
- Coordinate facility reservations, private parties, and external usage.
- Ensure facilities, equipment, and programs meet departmental quality standards.
- Oversee preventative maintenance and coordinate repairs with Campus Operations/vendors.
- Programming, Events & Community Engagement
- Coordinate, supervise, and evaluate esports programming, open recreation gaming, leagues, camps, tournaments, and special events.
- Oversee camp operations, including registration processes and staff support.
- Develop and execute external partnerships to expand programming into the community.
- Collaborate across departments and external partners to ensure successful program delivery.
- Staff Supervision & Team Leadership
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate student employees and camp staff.
- Provide ongoing staff supervision, problem‑solving, and development.
- Engage in and support departmental trainings focused on leadership and community building.
- Contribute to the Recreational Sports Leadership Team and support departmental initiatives.
- Technology, Esports Strategy & Innovation
- Oversee esports‑related technology, including hardware, software, and gaming infrastructure in collaboration with ITS.
- Plan and implement technology upgrades and enhancements.
- Manage gaming titles and support competitive strategies and gameplay development.
- Administration, Budgeting, Assessment & Marketing
- Manage budgets, financial tracking, and revenue/expense targets.
- Prepare reports and evaluate program effectiveness using data‑driven methods.
- Collaborate with Institutional Research on data tracking and assessment strategies.
- Support marketing, communications, and promotional efforts with the Rec Sports marketing team.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and risk management practices.
- Other Duties
- Participate in meetings, reporting, and administrative responsibilities.
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One year of experience in recreational sports or a related field.
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certified by a reputable sanctioning body or acquire within 60 days.
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- 3‑5 years of experience with operating a Varsity Esports program.
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certified Instructor by a reputable sanctioning body.
- Knowledge of Gaming PCs.
- Knowledge of NACE.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Working knowledge of office software and instructional programs.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups.
- Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies.
- Ability to orally comprehend and express information and using inductive and deductive reasoning.
- Ability to facilitate and adapt course content.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Compensation:
Commensurate with experience.
