Position Overview

The Academic Success Coach II is a full‑time, grant‑funded position responsible for supporting participants in developing the skills and motivation necessary to complete a secondary education and post‑secondary education. Under supervision, the coach manages a caseload of program participants, provides academic, college, career, and financial aid assistance, and coordinates program activities such as workshops, resource fairs, and summer components.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Student Advising, Academic Support, and Case Management:
    Create purposeful interactions between students and academic institutions, assess academic and supportive needs, provide goal‑oriented advising, suggest resources, help with curriculum planning, maintain records, and implement early intervention strategies for at‑risk students.
  • College, Career, and Financial Aid Advising:
    Provide guidance on admissions, financial aid, scholarships, career exploration, and academic policies, and help students navigate course withdrawals and satisfactory progress.
  • Program Coordination, Recruitment, and Outreach:
    Identify, recruit, and interview program participants; review applications; coordinate recruitment events; assist in planning workshops, fairs, and summer components; collaborate with community partners; and facilitate field trips and college visits.
  • Administrative, Data Management, and Reporting:
    Maintain accurate program records, enter participant data, track outcomes, submit travel requests, reconcile expenditures, and produce reports in compliance with grant and institutional requirements.
  • Supervision and Staff Support:
    Assist the Student Engagement Coordinator in supervising, training, and evaluating student workers and part‑time staff, ensuring quality service delivery and program compliance.
  • Other Duties:
    Perform all other tasks necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related experience in student support services, advising, or educational programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a TRIO federal program or similar program.
  • Experience providing case management services.
  • Experience advising students on college admissions and financial aid processes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; ability to communicate orally and in writing and deliver presentations.
  • Professional interaction with diverse student, staff, and community groups.
  • Ability to multitask, collaborate, and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and instructional software.
  • Ability to provide academic advising, student support, and facilitate learning and engagement.
  • Knowledge of college admissions, financial aid, and student support resources.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods and strategies for teaching individuals and groups.
  • Ability to assess student needs and develop individualized educational plans.
  • Strong critical thinking and reasoning skills.
Other Requirements
  • Physical ability to move light materials and travel to community partner sites, schools, and events.
  • Potential travel up to 65% or more of the time.
  • Possible work beyond normal office hours and weekends.
  • Security‑sensitive position requiring export‑control authorization.
  • Compliance with state, federal, and university policies and regulations.
  • May direct and evaluate the work of student workers.
  • Position funded by grant; contingent upon continued funding and satisfactory performance.
