Head Unit Leader, Lake Rickabear Summer Camp

Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff to provide memorable experiences to girls in a safe and engaging Summer Camp environment!

Lake Rickabear Day Camp sits on 332 acres of land including a beautiful 40-acre, spring-fed lake, perfect for swimming, pedal boating, paddle boarding, and row boating.

The Head Unit Leader will oversee unit operations with Unit Leaders, Counselors, and Campers and provide supervision of unit staff. They will focus on enriching the educational opportunities offered at camp using the Girl Scout Program.

Immediate Supervisor:
Assistant Camp Director

• Supervise and support unit staff, providing constructive feedback on programming and behavior management.
• Brainstorm, develop, and execute new programs that can be done in units to extend the overall camp theme or experience.
• Work with the Program Director to brainstorm, develop, and execute badgework for units.
• Fulfill duty of Unit Leader by taking over units as needed.
• Keep records and make reports as required.
• Responds to emergencies and communicate to the units the necessary procedures to ensure safety. (ex. Lost Camper)
• Assist with opening and closing of camp including needed inventories and reports.
• Develop list of needed supplies for Business Manager and Rangers.
• Assist with the development of rainy-day activities.
• Act as a liaison between Program Director and unit staff.
• Must be able to stay and sleep over for at least two out of the three overnights.
• Must be able to stay at camp until the end of campfire for the overnights.
• Follow all procedures established in the Camp Communicable Disease Plan to mitigate risks associated with communicable diseases including Covid
  19. Ensure these procedures are being implemented by unit staff.
• Promote high camper and staff morale.
• Perform other duties as requested by Camp Director, Assistant Director, and Program Director.

Daily Rate: $135 (new staff) - $142 per day (returning staff). This is based on a 8 hour work day, which translates to $16.88 - $17.75 per hour respectively.

• Minimum age: 18 years of age and completed one year of college or similar work experience.
• Ability to motivate and provide constructive feedback to staff.
• Knowledge of the Girl Scout program.
• Ability to organize, schedule and develop special programs for units.
• Ability to make good judgment regarding health and safety procedures, and crisis situations.
• Hold or be willing to obtain current certification of standard First Aid and CPR (training to be provided).

• Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
• Daily exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
• Must be able to work in a rustic camp environment with limited access to electricity, cell phone service and internet.
